Gtx 480 driver problems.

Hi,

I am having problems with my gtx 480. When i install the display drivers and 3d vision drivers one of two things can happen.
First my games can work fine, i get the performance i was expecting. Or the first time i start a game i get a warning saying unsupported video adaptor and that i may experience stability issues. Well i do get them, my fps in games eg crysis go from 40-50fps to 5-10fps. This is in 2d or 3d. The drivers im mainly trying to get working are 175.41, these are the recommended 3d vision driver cd. I have also tried the later drivers that were released but get the same problem.
I have uninstalled all the driver in and out of safe mode, ive tried driver sweeper when this wasnt working, but the problem stays.
This is all at stock settings, and when i check the gpu temps they are normal. However the gpu load seems to stay between 10-40 percent.
The only way i can get the card to perform normally is to do a uninstall, reinstall of the drivers. Then i am normally able to play one game for a while, then when i exit and enter the next game, my problem reappears.
My psu is Corsair HX850, so i dont think it is the problem also considering the unsupported card message i get sometimes.

Any ideas whats going on?

Thanks in advance,

Phil.

Presuming you're using win 7 64bit, install the latest 480 drivers (ie 197.41) then install this. Worked fine for me, no issues whatsoever.

Hi,

I had already tried mismatching the drivers, but same problem.
I hope im not happy to soon, but i think i have worked out what was causing it.
I reformatted and reinstalled windows. I installed the 480 drivers, tried a bench and got what i should. I then installed the 3d vision driver, and still got the real performance.
My card came with two programs, asus smart doctor and gamer osd. You have to install gamer osd before smartdoctor. I installed the gamer osd, ran bench and got terrible performance. I rebooted, and got same. So i uninstalled the osd and find my fps are back to normal. Reinstalled osd to make sure, and again bad performance. So in my case this seems to cause the problem.
Before my reformat i had not tried the Smartdoctor program, as a friend had already recommended Afterburner. Anyway out of curiousity i installed the osd, restarted, then installed the Smartdoctor. When i try to start it, it gets stuck on the initiating notice and does not start up.
I have an asus card, but for me one of these programs causes driver problems for me, whilst the other refuses to work.
This make me wonder what is wrong, but not to bothered as Afterburner seems to be doing a great job for me.

Finally i can start gathering my 3d vision benchmarks for others to see.

Phil.
