GTX 480 GPU usage performance problem

Noticed that in some games GPU usage would just dip at certain sections in a game, the main culprits are GTA 4 and crysis, notice how GTA GPU usage goes down to 50% with this the FPS dives down to 40 FPS from a good 60+, crysis screens below shows looking at the ground produces 99% GPU usage and the other screen shows it at around 70% and again lower FPS.

If any 480 owners can confirm the same performance issues as seen in crysis at the same point in the level that would be great, and any suggestion on what the problem could be would be helpful.

Crysis GPU usage

Could be anything and it looks normal to me. I would probably say bottlenecks elsewhere in your system have caused the gpu to stall and the minor framerate drops.

When I say bottleneck, I mean you could have the fastest system in the world and the odd bottleneck could still crop up.

System specs

i7 920 4.2ghz
6gb 1600mhz corsair
corsair SSD 64 GB
HX750

Tried at stock clocks fps is still the same, it's not throttling because afterburner shows the clocks at constant speeds, it may just be bugs with these games or something else, that's why I need some 480 owners to check their GPU usage as I have done to confirm it or not.

I get much strangeness from Crysis. I reinstalled it friday night and had a blast with it, great framerates etc, I thought "Wow, I'm actually playing Crysis properly at last" and got all smug about it.

Played it again yesterday and it was really flaky and intermittently stuttered, framerates very low at times. The benchmark is showing great scores, averaging high 60's in Harbour Assault (1080, all very high) but actually playing it is another matter.

raven you sure that clock is stable? as in no artefacts because i admire the low volts and high clock but i can just do 814 core clock stable with 1138 mv :/

That voltage is about right for that clock speed.

Your maxing the voltage out and only getting 814Mhz? Whats your case cooling like?

Yeah can loop heaven or vantage all day long, passes EVGA OC scanner it's 100% solid, it's not the overclock, I look one way GPU usage 98%, look the other and it's 70%.

If GPU usage drops along with FPS, then it may indicate a CPU bottlekneck. The harbour scene in Crysis is definitely CPU intensive.

Might be worth monitoring CPU usuage during these FPS/GPU drops and see if there is a link.

Quick GTAIV test; with 850/2000 no less than 79% GPU usage at any time, currently using the older 257.21 Drivers.
