I now have an Accelero Xtreme installed on my 480 and fancy getting into a bit of overclocking action. What settings do I need to test for 580 like performance? Sorry to sound like a n00b, I've never overclocked my video card before

Using MSI afterburner what I did was on one slider at a time move it across 10MHz until the card was unstable, bring it back down until it is in steps of 5MHz or w/e. Repeat for the 3 other sliders (run furmark every so often to check temps). Then I'd do a longer furmark run on the max stable OC, if it's fine temp wise. You can try adding more voltage and repeating the process. That's what I did on my 460 anyway. Hope I helped :)

Use MSI afterburner You can only adjust the core clock and memory sliders, bump the memory up to 2000 you don't need anymore on a 480 where core speed is king. Try jumping straight in at 800Mhz on the core then test for stability with vantage or the heaven 2.1 bench, if it fails try pushing the voltage up a notch.

Don't use furmark, use a game or a benchmark as stated, furmark is not representative of a demanding game workload and pushes the GFX card too hard, with an overclocked 480 you will be looking at major heat problems running furmark.

How much would one 'notch' be when raising the voltage to get more OC'ing headroom? :) I'm pretty new at this myself and am currently just at the fiddling stage. Haven't tried messing with the volts.

im sure you can be more aggressive if your overclocking from stock. at least until 800mhz, before going 10mhz/5mhz at a time, right?

I meant more of a bump volt by x number of milivolts set mem to x shader to y whatever to z and thats approx 580 performance, There are so many variables and some make more of a difference than others (I believe)

I went straight in at 800MHz core and 2000MHz memory and it runs fine at stock voltages, which gives about 5% - 10% improvement. you will need to see about 20% improvement to get to 580 performances.

blimey the price of a 480 is dropping like a rock, looking seriously good value now at £235 I saw today I see Sli in my future

I would for just gaming, but my 480 is mainly for Premiere CS5/Photoshop and I need it rock stable. Gone are the days when I could play WOW till the birds were twittering at the dawn, the wife wouldnt like it
