GTX 480 - upgrade to?

I bought a 7950 to check how it performs @ 2560x1440. Put it at 7970 speed and altough it uses about 300watt less from the wall and doesn't stutter i am pretty disappointed by it's performance in bf3. My SLI gtx 480 is much faster. Think i should've done more homework. SLI is going back in there! I'll upgrade to gtx 680 4gb after my holiday:)

But GTX 480 sli is still faster than a single GTX 680:)

Yeah true, but it uses a lot less watt, lot less noise, no sli stuttering and i can sli later with two gtx 680 4gb;)
Gtx680 should perform a lot better in bf3. For me i play bf3 the most and sli just gives me stutter , o cant take it lol

I looked into this with BF3 recently and the short answer is they are roughly equal.

When you take into account the 680 typically overclocks better than 480s, especially in SLI, and at 1080p with BF3 you start to get a small effect from hitting the vram limit.

Try the new NVIDIA Beta drivers 300 series and enable adaptive VSYNC, smooth as butter for me in BF3 no stutter.

I am using the latest 300 beta drivers. Adaptive vsync makes the whole experience a lot better but doesn't get rid of the cpu spikes i seem to get when i have sli enabled.

Do you realy need to change card, i have 2 480's and play bf3 , - (480's were cheap at the time and i had money in my pocket) ,. when upgrading drivers i would forget to reaply sli but when playing the game i would not notice. the game still runs sweet with 1 gtx480. card runs hot -yes , but it does the business.

I don't need to change card. I want to. It doesn't bother me to pay a couple of hundred to change the card. Just prefer something less power consuming and hot. I just don't like the thought of something so power hungry and hot in my PC. I got the card cheap at the time same reason as you.

GTX 670 looking nice if the rumours are true. Will need to wait till released to be sure. Gonna be best part of £350 though more than likely.

Only worthwhile cards to upgrade to are the 680 or 7970 thats about it

The 480 is still a damn fast card and there is still nothing massively faster on the market. The 680 is quite a bit quicker bench wise, but I doubt you'd really notice it in many games considering the 480 rips through everything you throw at it. It will take years for the power saving to pay for the upgrade. I have no plans to upgrade my 480 yet anyway.

^^ This, im running a pair of 480's in SLI and they totally destroy everything I play, ive also modded the bios so the cards use much less power at idle and run cool and quiet.

Sometimes it's just nice to get the newest hardware though so if your totally set on an upgrade the GTX 670 looks like the pick of the bunch of the current cards. Supposed to be faster than all the AMD 79XX cards, not far behind the GTX 680 in performance and around £100 cheaper (Rumoured)..

Still prices are very high this gen, it might be worth waiting until they settle down..
