With all the speculation on the performance of the new Nvidia offerings (or lack of) do we have any idea how these things will run SETI?

And how many are going to take the plunge and get one (or more) of these cards?

I will buy 1 with immediate effect if it does the business.
Its going to cost a fortune and more than likely I will need a new psu as I only have a 600w.

I keep looking for info but nothing solid :(

Is the extra performance worth a hotplate in your PC? :D

Well, all the extra heating has come in handy this winter. I'll have to definately cut back in summer though.

I'll probably not upgrade to fermi, I seem to jump one generation of nvidia's cards. geforce 2, 4200, 6600, 8600, 260/280.. so tradition demands that I miss fermi :)

Even if you really wanted a Fermi, there is a good chance you wouldn't manage to get one, at least not for sensible money.* They're going to be like hen's teeth by the sounds of it.

*sensible being somewhat relative since no graphics card has a sensible price! :p

Ah but......

What about PSU?

Rumour has it min required for the GTX480:

600w with 42amps on the 12v rail

Now I do have the Corsair 1000w but it's only rated upto 40amps on the 12v rail

I'm beginning to think this little jolly is gonna be more expensive than first thought.....

The HX1000 is rated up to 80A on the 12v as are most other 1KW PSUs. Nvidia rated the GTX 280 with very similar power requirements. I have no doubt that something like an HX850 can comfortably run an [email protected] with GTX 480 SLI.
