gtx 570 or 6970 ?

Really depends on the games you play. Just brought a 6950 and its having huge Lod and texture problems on arma 2. So for me the 6950 wasnt such a good choice. Bad company 2 runs great tho

My own personal take on this question is that I seem to prefer the 570.

Overall both cards are equal, one better in one game the other in a different game.

However, the 570 has the addition of better tesselation performance and *potentially better driver support

I'v left out physx and eyefinity as they are rather specialised.

The 2Gb of ram on the 6970 is nice.... and may come in to play on some very niche games such as GTA4, but if the extra ram was helping the 6970 in general gaming then surely the performance of the 6970 would be better than the GTX 570 over all.

I think you should base your decision on certain factors:

Whats more important too you:

Noise?
Heat?
Power consumption?
Overclockability?
Which perfomes better in a game you like to play?

Look at some benchmarks to determine these factors...

I looking at doing a new build once sandy bridge is released, been trying to decide between the gtx570 and 6970 myself. not looked at bench marks recently but the ones I have looked at I'm leaning towards the gtx570 due to it's slightly better performance at the res I'll be playing at(i.e. 1920 x 1200) with aa etc turned on, hopefully amd will release newer drivers between now and when I come to buy the parts so we'll get a better idea of what the 6970 can do with 'proper' drivers so may still change my mind.

the news of flashing the 6950 to 6970 has got me thinking about the 6950 but will have to see if amd/ati stop this by the time I come to build the pc.

of course how quickly I can buy the parts for my build after sandy bridge is released all depends on how quickly I find a job, currently unemployed so can't really afford to spend hundreds/thousands on a pc especially with the several hundred pound expense on my car over the next 3months coming up(car insurance renewal due in like 2 1/2 weeks £500+(due to being unemployed(£100 or so cheaper if I had a job), service+mot and break down cover renewal due in march).
