I only had a 9600gt on a e7300 @3.2ghz and 2 gig ram on xp pro, i got 11,900 on 3dmark06, now i have just bought a second hand evga gtx 570 superclocked as a upgrade, but i only got a 3dmark06 score of 15,300, was exspecting like a 200/300% jump in score and in fps in games i play, but not that much of a jump it seems, is this because my cpu is bootlenecking the 570 ? or is that 3dmark06 score ok for my setup, thx

Oh and another thing, when i overclocked the 570, my scores actually went down a lot in 3dmark06, can that happen or anyone know what the cause could be.

Your gpu is decent enough, but the rest of your system is very poor pairing for that gpu.

Only thing I could suggest imo would be to upgrade, either to a haswell build if you can or a AMD based system for around 220.

How much money can you put aside so people can suggest you a capable system to get the most out of the 570?

The problem here is, you really need to upgrade to Win 7/8 to get the most out of it and that will cost £70 alone.

Lol.
Was a good price on a 570, but your CPU will hold it back in nearly everything. You knew that before buying though, as you made a thread asking what's the best i should upgrade to :p

Run it in games and compare, one way to look at it you're getting the absolute maximum that CPU can give and when you upgrade you'll unlock the rest of the 570s power ;)

Your 9600gt is about half a 8800gt iirc so jump to 570 should be massive

Def cpu bottleneck there i would say....a mate had a 5850 gpu with a q6600 cpu and got told that was a bottleneck....

Have you tried overclocking the cpu?

Or maybe pick up a e8500 cpu cheap 2nd hand and overclock that too? :)

Scores going down when oc gpu could be caused by the ram on the 570 if its got eec ram...had the same when i pushed my 6950s to hard...the ram corrects the errors its producing so you get no artifacts but a lower score.

Also you didnt say what psu you have?

Important bit is how many amps it can deliver on the 12v rail

35A needed according to here

Thx for replys, yes i did know my cpu would hold me back, but not by how much it seems it has, also i dont think xp pro helps like you say, but i originally was only going to get a gtx 285, but seen the 570 at a good price, even thou its over the top for my current setup, trouble is i have like 100 games from the last 10 years on my xp pro install, so im finding it hard to move on to win 7 :), maybe i will do a dual boot ?, it is strange thou that i got like 30fps in world of conflict on my 9600gt and only a extra 5 fps with the 570, thought i would have got double or triple that, any how thx for replys.

i have a corsair tx650, and it should be fine and has 40amp on the 12v rail, also my e7300 is overclocked from 2.66 to 3.2, cant get more.

You're not still running on the same install of xp pro from ten years ago i hope? :)

msi afterburner will confirm that the gpu is hardly doing any work at all while the cpu is running flat out trying to run it :)

Well i have not touched the xp install in at least 7 years i know that for sure, will try msi afterburner tomorrow, what part of msi burner do i run to test how much work gpu is doing.

Definitely time for a clean install of windows thats for sure.

Just play whatever game and afterburner will record the usage and temps etc in form of a graph.
Can be setup to give a nice wee on screen display too so you can see readings as you play :)

I hear you guys, but i love XP, also when running afterburner if the graph shows gpu at 99%, does that mean it is not being bottlenecked, or if graph shows lets say 50%, that means it is being bottlenecked by cpu(or is it the other way around), not tried it yet thou, just want to know what to look for.

If no bottleneck then yes the gpu will be running at 90%+ all the time.

If its only running at 50% then its not working as hard as it should be as the cpu is holding it back.
Also take note of the cpu usage.

and you need to check if the game you play relies more on the CPU than the GPU! use something like coretemp to check the CPU load too.

well i am a bit confused, while running both msi kombustor and occt gpu 3d, gpu load shows 94% and cpu load like just 20%/34% ? cant be right surely.

Those applications test the GPU only. You need to run a gaming benchmark. Just running through whiterun on skyrim is a good test as well, that's very CPU dependent.
