I have been using my new pc for a while now and its fantastic, but today for some reason i was on GTA 4 Multiplayer and suddently my screen went dark gray and froze and kept repeating the game sounds, couldnt alt-tab or anything, the screen was completley froze. i restarted my machine and my pc seemed to take longer to boot up? then on the welcome screen there was a section at the bottom of the screen which was a weird pink colour in multiple lines, after 10 seconds the pink lines faded out and i could continue with my GTA4. when playing gta 4 again my fps seemed to be about 5 lower (on max settings)?
My cpu temps are always superb when in games, around 40-50, and my GPU TEMP is never above 75c whilst gaming. what do you guys think? any help would be great thanks.

well pink lines sound like artifacting and if you have lowish temps then it could be defective card.
do you overclock your 580 and what psu u use?

If it's not overclockd you could try using Furmark which is free and will stress your 580 nicely. This will allow you to replicate the result only using the g card.. make sure your drivers are up to date obviously and also, i find it weird yours is so cool, mine hits 85 during game which is apparently normal!

85C is normal, only if you leave your fan speeds on auto. Setting a custom fan profile can help you keep your card temps way down, or to a point that will help you prolong the life of your card.

OP: I've had this problem before with different games, had to call EVGA and they said it was a faulty card but I just updated my drivers and it worked absolutely fine.

Just a heads up for the folks that don't seem to realise yet. But the apps like Furmark are no longer a good stress test for your Nvidia 5*** series cards. As they detect such apps and throttle the card back. Try something like one of the Unigine engined rolling demos.
(see http://unigine.com/) or the Metro 2033 demo :):):)

As to load temps. Obviously depends on which 580 GTX he has and many other variables.
