I'm getting a N580GTX Lightning for christmas, just wanted to hear everyones opinions on it before i go ahead and buy it, also just want to make sure my Computer can handle it, so here are my pc specs.
Intel Core i7 920
Asus P6T SE
6GB Corsair XMS3 CM3X2G1600C9
ATI HD 4890 1GB GDDR5
Corsair TX650w
I'm also buying a Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000W Modular PSU as well, as i think i need a bigger psu.
Thoughts?

No one seems to have stock of the 580 Lightning or Lightning Xtreme anywhere, I think it's been discontinued.

I'm not an expert on these things but I think the PSU is "big enough". What's most important with these modern graphics cards is how many amps the 12V rail can deliver. I think most manufacturers recommend a PSU that can deliver 42A on the 12V rail.

It says it's a single +12v rail up to 98A.
so i guess that's ok, yes?
as you can tell, i'm no computer expert

not sure what that means tbh, i'm a bit of a computer noob

I run a similar setup with an overclocked 480 with no issues (same PSU).

I'm sure you'll be fine BUT it won't cover you for SLi with 580's.

1000w psu is way overkill for just one gtx 580. Also yes it will be more than enough for Sli gtx 580.

The PSU should cover it unless you're a willy worrier.

I have two 295 co ops on a 625w Modu.

It's not really about the wattage, more the amp feed and stability of your PSU.

TBH I'd not have even attempted it if it wasn't for this.

Yeah there is a strong tendency to exaggerate psu power reqs. First by manufacturers of cheap psus, and therefore by gpu manufacturers, and then by hardware review sites followed by users who keep jacking up required wattage meaninglessly. Take guru3d's recommendations for psus. They are so exaggerated to the point of being silly. It's because they are covering their own asses on a topic they don't understand. One of the few psu reviewers who understands the topic is johnnyguru because he's an electrical engineer. You can't review a psu with pop tech knowledge like u can with other pc components.

I run a single gtx 580 just fine on a rig with a cm gx 550w. And that is comfortably over what it needs.
