Was going to be purchasing the MSI Twin Frozr 1.5GB GTX 580 tomorrow or the day after. Is this a good decision or am I missing out on a better graphics card for the same price?

P.S I'll be running it with a XFX 750 Pro and two 1080p displays. (Games will only be running on one of them).

If you want a single card then the GTX580 will be more than enough to power any game at 1080p. You could also wait a bit and see how the 7950 performs.

Yea wait to see what AMD bring out next month, Nvidia ain't releasing until the end of February/ start of March!

*edit*

Also, the 7970 outperforms the GTX580 in beta tests, check out this link @ bit-tech.net, they have a review on the 7970.

The 7950 will be about the same power as the GTX580 or just a little less... little less if you want my opinion.

Nvidia will release a GTX680 that will wipe the floor with the 7970 though.

 Source?

Didn't you see the link I put on the last post or are you blind?

I must be very blind not to see where it says Kepler (680) will be out around Feb/March. I only heard of it being about 6 months away.

Edit - I see in the conclusion it says "Nvidia will respond with its own 28nm Kepler parts around March/April (to coincide with Ivy Bridge, we believe) and
we expect new GPUs from AMD between January and March too."
That makes a bit more sense with convention.

Can you imagine how mega expensive it will be tho' :( but hey I guess that will drop amd's prices and all will be well in the bang for buck department.

Ya I don't feel like waiting to be honest, my GTX 460 is showing its age and my dad needs a new card, I'll get the 580 and give him my 460. Cheers for the responses guys.

The guy is trolling and your all falling it.

I would wait until 9th of Jan and see what the price of 7970 is like before making a decision. To be honest though anything above a HD6950/GTX570 is pretty poor value given how much extra you have to pay for a minor increase in performance the 7970 just magnifies that point.

Hey i did the exact same upgrade in about august/ september time. its a really good card, my temps hit around 68% of BF3 everything on ultra. Get good FPS as well. MSI really did a good job with the cooler. Im also running a small overclock 840 from 800.

You could wait or you could get one now and then get another for SLI when they get cheaper.
