Cos a pair of them are in the same price region as a 680 and the performance is mega - see here
I was soundly in bed with either a couple of 7850's CF or a 7950 with a spare slot.... but the gtx580 is a steal, if its worth the risk of 90days warranty...

I'd buy 2 7850s.
really, your sig shows a gtx - what's your experience?Pound for pound the gtx580 is faster, but hotter and a little more power hungry... here
I know the 7850 only needs 1x6pin power and clocks like a devil
cos I've done loads a looking! The oem GTX580 is a final curve ball trying to upset my plan 
...but I am thinking that SLI has the drivers well in order....
