I am not quite sure if this belongs here (General Hardware) or should be moved to Motherboard/GPU, but unfortunately I am having some problems with this. At first, I just had an error within windows (popup after startup) indicating that there was a problem with a certain file. As everything worked fine though, I ignored that and unfortunately did not pay close attention to the details of the error.

A few days ago though, the computer would not start up at all anymore. BSOD nvlddmkm.sys. I could not get into Windows. I was able to get into Safe Mode Windows, and through that removed all drivers which allowed me to startup into Windows normally again. After updating the drivers though, the same problem right away (most recent drivers, tried an older version from Febr. as well). After trying various drivers versions, I got fed up and decided to just reinstall the computer completely and see if that sorted it out.

Clean Windows 7 install, starts up perfectly. But after updating the motherboard chipset/drivers, same error again. Won't get into windows at all nvlddmkm.sys error. :(

What I am wondering now, is my video card or motherboard dead? And would it be worth upgrading everything or just go for a new GPU (I was thinking about the 970)?

My setup for details:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz
Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 590 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Mobo: Asus P8P67 Intel P67
RAM: Corsair XMS3 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2 High Performance Power Supply
HDD: OCZ Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 SSD (x2, one for OS, one for games)

I did try that before the full re-install, but could not get that to work. Was not able to unpack the file. I'll try again later today (at work at the moment), see if I can do that.
