GTX 590.

you are power crazy aren't you
why not buy a 580, wait for 590 if 590 beats 6990, buy 590, sell the 465, and use 580 as physx ? ?
that way you have all the nvidia power one could ever wish for

or

buy 2 x 6950 for £400 or less have nice time till next gen, then plough all your money info something that is set to be a huge jump in performance from what is available now, ?

lmao a tempting idea i'll think about it :P

is next gen coming late this year ? i'll probly skip that to upgrade to ivy bridge then get whats being released this time next year in terms of gpu's me thinks see how it goes i've chosen to go for 2x twin frozer 580s for my set up :D ... or like u said a 580 and a gtx 590 haha

I hear the GTX 590 makes the Radeon 6990 look like a Voodoo 3 3500

Anyone remember that thread talking about Nvidia paying people to go on forums and talk them up........

25 posts, I've not noticed the name before and I've suddenly seen it in a 6990 and a 590 thread, one posting a link to a benchmark with 6990 vs 590gtx, in of course Nvidia's Fermi launch title with Physx in, assuming(very long shot) a realistic and fair result, meaningless in terms of which card is faster, better value, less deafening.

Frankly I couldn't care less neither the 6990 nor the 590gtx will be attractive cards, great for idiots who have to have the most expensive card regardless, or those who live on a spaceshuttle so really can't just buy a really big case, terrible for anyone who has hearing and doesn't want to damage it.

Yes they'll be great cards performance wise, and at launch they are a viable alternative, but seeing as you could have 6990/590gtx performance since late Nov/early Dec, its hardly earth shattering news.

Now personally I expect(after some gouging) some fairly solid pricing from AMD, value, it will end up cheaper than 2x6970. Remember current listed price is the same "gouging" price of the 5970, whose RRP was £440, a price it eventually got back down to. AT £440 it offers decent value but lots of downsides, the 590gtx, won't be cheap, its not going to offer value, just an alternative. 2x580gtx's WILL be a better option for noise/cooling/sane people. 2x570gtx's are even better for 99% of users, will max out SO many games it will be rare occasions a 2x580gtx will actually be noticeably different, benchmarks, sure, will you notice 135fps instead of 125fps, never.

And the government also has taps on your phone...

I'd sleep with one eye open if I were you... and with a gun under my pillow.

edit: I did apply to NVIDIA For a job. Does that qualify me as a paid shill?

if you buy a gtx 590 you have more money than sence. A 560 is way cheaper and will handle all games easily for the nexy few years, ill get a 590 when the price drops

Well thats just the other extreme, sure you can play any game on a 8500gt, doesn't mean you have to.

The reason a 590gtx is ridiculous is the performance IS available already via the exact same cores in a different package. A 580gtx is faster than a 560 though, quite a bit faster, and a 560gtx will struggle in some games and certainly at higher resolutions or surround/3d gaming.

I have no issue with spending money, if you love games, why not play on a great screen with a couple powerful gpu's, seriously theres no good reason why not. If you love TV< get a good tv, if you love gardening why have crap tools, etc, etc.

The problem is, and I think I came up with the single best way to describe it, the 6990/590gtx are the same product in a different package.

Buying the same thing in a different package for a HIGHER costs with mostly negatives over the existing versions is just dumb, really really dumb. Buying the same thing with a few negatives like sound, heat, which are really very big negatives, but saving money doing so becomes a serious choice.

Thats why a 4870x2 was a great choice offered a significant saving while being hot as hell and quite noisy. The 5970 at launch pricing was a joke, at RRP was great value, a 6990 at £570 is laughable, a 590gtx even close to 2x580gtx cost will be laughable and that depends where it comes in on clocks/heat/noise. If its much closer in performance to 2x570gtx's then it will want to be priced around 2 of those to be a sane choice.

AMD drivers, especially when it comes to Crossfire are horrendous. Sorry, mainstream games they are superb. Anything slightly older or obscure and you got no chance.

If AMD got rid of this horrible practice of encrypting and locking the app profiles, 70% of Crossfire issues would be gone over night. Give the user some power, they pay enough for the hardware.

Resorting to tools like RadeonPro to do a simple task that should be available in the CCC isn't good enough.

For that reason, i'd gladly pay a £100 premium.

Pleeeeease AMD, sort that out and i'd be back in a shot.

hi guys,
are people really going to splash out well over 500 notes on a 6990 or gtx590
when theres no pc game out now or for the remainder of 2011 that
will require one.
my guess is that only about 2% of people on this forum game with a 30''
monitor with full res.
surely anyone with the latest gtx 580 or 6970 wont need to upgrade for
another 2 years.
nearly 90% of pc games are being made using the xbot 360 as lead platform
and then being ported to pc.
good luck to people buying the new gpu's(im probably only jealous lol).

You're so wrong.

What about the people that enjoy surround/eyefinity.
What about people that enjoy surround/eyefinity AND want 3D...

There is always a need for something.
