GTX 660 causing hard drive problems

Hi everybody
I've sent this off to tech support but I thought I would canvas some opinions on here aswell, see if anyone has heard of anything like this before.

Ok so I just bought a GTX 660 for my computer and installed it fine but when I go to load up windows the hard drvie starts clicking on and off as if it's restarting.
It will do this a few times then eventually load into windows, once in it's ok but when you go to shutdown it will do some more clicking and take an age to shutdown.

After a few restart windows won't load because it's damaged and eventually all I get is the blue screen.

If I put my old Radeon 5800 back in there is no clicking and I can rapair the disk and get back in.

Anyone ever heard of graphics cards interfering with hard drives before?

The Power supply is a CorsaiTX 750W.
I was kind of thinking the power supply aswell but a 750 should be fine shouldn't it ?

Is it possible that it could be running below it's 750W capacity ?

Thanks
Scott

I just can't see how a GPU would affect how a HDD will or will not work. I said the PSU because of power usages but that PSU is fine. Mobo BIOS not up to date maybe? Other than that, I am stumped.

It's only a couple of years old. Unfortunately I don't have a spare power supply that's compatible, just old junk.

Hi guys

I updated the bios to the F6 version.
Unfortunately this hasn't fixed the issue.

It now boots like normal clicks once on the desktop and runs fine.
But when I go to turn it off it gets stuck on the "shutting down" screen and just clicks continuously until I perform a forced shutdown.

I did try to re-install the graphics drivers while I was on aswell but it blue screened on me.

Tech support has advised me to get SeaTools to check the hard drive.

I also tried the card in my brothers computer last night and it worked without a hitch. loaded right up installed drivers and he was playing planetside all night long without a problem.

Can you tell me is it possible to flash the bios to an earlier version ?
I was going to try the beta bios versions but it would be nice to be able to return to the F6 if they don't work out. Not sure I like the sound of a beta bios but they are the latest versions.

Thanks again for the help guys.

I would remove the hard drive from the case and then see if it does the same plugged in but sitting on the desk, just to eliminate any interference caused by when you first installed the graphics card.

Wow, this is a weird one...which cables are you plugging in to your card..maybe one lead could be wrong?

I have never owned a corsair PSU so don't know what they have written on them.

The only cable that goes into the 660 is one pci-e 6pin
my 5800 takes 2 pci-e 6pins. I did think this was wrong at first but apparently that's right.
I have tried both of the two 6pins and both have the same problem.

I have also tried re-arranging the cables to my hard drive and trying them in the various Sata slots, admittedly I haven't tried every combination but of the ones I have tried the problem was the same. Repeated clicking on shutdown.

Clutching at straws but could it be because I'm using an HDTV ?
I mean it displays fine but could it lead to power and or memory leaks ?

I'm starting to think that the PSU or the MOBO are faulty. It's just a little odd that it all works fine with the 5800.

Could be a dodgy SATA cable, try swapping that first. It might be something as silly as one card being bigger forcing the cable to a different angle which just happens to work.

Ok so after testing the card in my brothers computer and it working perfectly.
I thought I'd test his hard drive in my computer. With his hard drive in my PC the clicking has stopped.
Naturally I was quite exited about this but then the computer completely shut down without warning.

I booted it a couple more times to make sure but the same happened it would sit on the desktop quite happily for a while but as soon as I tried to do something the computer would just turn itself off.

To me that sounds very much like a PSU problem. What about you guys ?
