Morning everyone I was wondering whether I can pick your expert brains on whether or not I should upgrade my 670 to the new R9 295 X2 that has been announced at £700 today as a deal I was wondering whether it's a wise upgrade or not. I'm currently gaming at 1440p I haven't really pushed my 670 to see whether or not it's capable of playing high end titles like BF4 on max however the R9 295 X2 looks to be able 4 times as quick for £700.

I was wondering whether I'm better off upgrading right now as this deal still stands or wait a few years for new technology to come out and let the old technology come down in price.

I'm basically looking for your personal opinions on what I should do?

I think you will probably be wanting to upgrade in ~ a year at the very most. Depending on game titles obviously. A single 670 probably struggles already on bf4 and 1440p quite badly.

That being said a 295x2 might tax your 3570k quite a bit in situations.

My advise?

Wait a bit and do a big upgrade at broadwell take what ever the best offerings from Nvidia/amd and upgrade to the new i7 then.

Yeah wait a bit mate. Take a look at 4GB 970/980s or maybe some second hand 780s (if your'e staying green)

Even with SLI BF4 struggles at some points at 1440p, It's the VRAM.

Edit - just saw you're considering the 295X2. Would be a definite upgrade! Have you got the PSU capacity for it (850w?)

When you say big upgrade Qitarah I don't really want to upgrade other parts of my system I didn't want to touch my cpu and mobo for about 3 years if I could. Maybe a 4gb 970/980 is probably the option when are they due ?

I would have to purchase a new psu with the 295x2 but in theory they should last about 4 years.

The 670 should be fine for now unless you really want to push the settings on demanding games. I'm able to run a few lower demanding games on 4k with my single 670. I do plan on upgrading to the 900 series soon though once it's out.
