Think it's finally time to upgrade my trusty old GTX 670!

I mainly want to play Post Scriptum and the new Hell Let Loose.

My CPU is still solid I think (see my sig) along with ram but I am not sure what to look at GPU wise because I ideally don't want to also upgrade my motherboard.

My question is what's the best Nvidia card I can currently get that will fit/is compatible with my MSI Z87-G4 motherboard?

All GPU’s will be compatible as they all use a PCI-E slot, which have been on motherboards for years upon years.

For your budget, and if you can wait a few days, I’d suggest the 2060 super.

Bumping this thread as back in July last year I never did get round to that upgrade. Still rocking the GTX670 as it plays Hell Let Loose and Post Scriptum reasonably well on mostly high settings! However, I would like a frame rate boost and think now really is the time to go for it.

Do people still think the 2060 super is a good bet? I can prob stretch to £450ish. Want it to be a solid improvement over 670 and run stuff for next few years ideally.

You could get an rtx 2070super for that budget, this one is one of the cheapest but gets pretty good reviews on OCUK.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £459.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

You could go for a 5700xt and save yourself about £100 and only lose 5-10% performance against the 2070super but amd is having some driver issues at the minute so depends if you just want hassle free.

Amazing thanks for that. And this card will def work ok on my motherboard (MSI Z87-G4)? Also, perhaps I could go bit higher and go for one of the Gigabyte Windforce x3 ones (simply as the windforce x3 670 I have has done so well since 2012!) but would there be much point?

I wouldn't get a 2060 even if it's much better than what you have.

Your CPU is still sweet and for your budget you need a 2070s at a minimum. That will last you a year or so longer than a 2060 easy

Deffo a 2070S. When I recommended the 2060S, it was back when it suited your budget, but prices have dropped since then, so a 2070S is definitely the right choice.

It’s a real stonking card for the money.

6 month old thread. No surprise haha. Personally I would have bought used back then at that budget. £400 is a lot of cash imo.

What do you think you could have got used back then for £400?

Not much really.

Maybe a used 1080ti if you were lucky. But nothing good new.

I mainly buy used as prices these days are silly.

Back in the day (20 years ago) parts would die or DOA all the time. But now they last much longer if not abused so I don't really worry about buying used. The money I've saved would cover multiple losses now. Yeah it would be a downer but you run the risk.

To me used market looks pretty bad at the moment. Used Pascal cards are only like 30 quid cheaper than the newer stuff, i.e 1080Ti for £400 when brand new 5700XT and 2070S is around the same price, 1070 going for £180~ when 1660S is same speed and much better in DX12/Vulkan for £200 etc.

When you take into consideration the age of these cards and that they're not very good in new APIs + no warranty I wouldn't bother. If there was 1080Ti at sub £300 or 1080 non ti at sub £200 that would be a good price.
