GTX 670

I use a stock gtx 780 with an i7 4770k @ 4.5 and play everything either high or maxed out on 1440p without issue.

I'm sure it will perform great, any problems then notch down a few settings and you will be fine.

Now I know most people will point me in the direction of AMD due to price for performance at the moment which is a good reason, but is this a good upgrade with what I have now for gaming at 1440p or should I wait?

I have a smiler setup to you, 1440p screen and a GTX670. At the moment I find games seem to run just fine (BF4, Civ 5, Rome 2, ME3, Witcher 2, Tomb Raider) the only thing that taxes my card is Witcher 2 when I enable Super Sampling. If you really want more performance I suggest looking 2nd hand and going SLI but if you can live with what you have wait until the end of year and see what 20nm brings.

Well on Flee bay you are still looking at around £150 upwards for a second hand 670. I know what you mean with it handling fine as long as you turn AA down etc.

Might be best as you say to just hold out for now and see what comes out at the end of the year. Worried that Watch Dogs might chew it up and spit it out...

I had a 670 oc version that was plenty fast enough for most games.

I still bought a 780 as they are just great cards, dont believe all the hype floating around, the 780 is the best card you can get for under £400 for the majority of games. In My opinion.

Sli 670's are a good option also if you can find one cheap enough.

It's tangible, it ain't hype.

290+SSD is the best performance for under £400 end of story.:p

@op,

Gibbo hinted last week he's trying to get a deal done with Nvidia to get prices down for deals in May.

The end of the year is still a long way off for 20nm IF it even comes out.

Don't mess about and grab that EVGA Classy 780. It is an awesome card and sure it costs more than AMD but it can kick my Titans all over the place (and my Titans are on water). Check out some of the bench threads on this forum and see how well the 780 Classy does.

:)

I am just holding back a bit as other than Watch Dogs there isn't really anything new out for a while is there! ARGH!!!!!!! Decisions, decisions....

My CPU won't bottleneck will it?
