Would this make a decent stop gap for 1080p

currently saving for a new rig and currently only have a core 2 quad and gtx550ti 1gb version and its really lacking at doing anything. i'm not hoping for ultra settings or anything special but enough to at least play some of my old games on pc like Stalker,portal2 maybe some crysis. anything that uses more than 1x6pin is out the question as the psu wont hack it. ideally no power at all would be a bonus as when i build my new rig i can recycle it into the family dell machine (yes i can't believe i just said dell on ocuk lol)

Someone chirping in that owns one would be great so i can get a real idea of how they perform.

was looking at this one as requires no external power

Not worth the money when compared to similar priced cards such as the 270/270X.

Found this - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-345-MS - which is what a 270X now is.

Or a 270X - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-381-MS - but if seen better prices in the MM.

Or a brand new 7850 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-064-HS

Just check they fit your case etc.

If it must be a low powered card like a 750ti then there are cheaper ones listed.

thanks for the quick reply i cant find anything on the dimensions for that card? just seen your edit i'm talking about the b grade 7870

In answer to your original question, yes, a 750ti is very capable at 1080p from my experience, even with quite high settings I was getting decent frame rates.

I quite like this idea I wasn't aware some of the 960's only use 1 six pin and less tdp than some of the older gen cards I was looking at. How cool do the run?

Most of the 960s are so cool and quiet that the fans don't even spin at idle on several models. The MSI Gaming 960 fans are completely silent at idle and even at load spin nice and slowly because the fans are larger and push more air than most other models.

The new cards are a lot more efficient so the 960 will use quite a bit less power than your 550 Ti while pushing double the fps and that MSI Gaming 960 is dead quiet too.

Thanks for the info buddy. Your right i checked the tdp of my 550ti is 116w the 960 is only 120

Would it be worth going for one of the new4gb models?
To be quite honest looking and reviews and benchies I could see that doing me for quite a while.

4GB 960 is a waste of time and money, I don't even know why they make it.
