gtx 760 noise.

I has about to say totally the opposite.
Over the weekend I upgraded from my 560GTX to this MSI 760:

The difference is that the new MSI is almost silent compared to the 560.
The computer room has never sounded so quiet - and this is under full load in rather high ambient temperatures at the moment.

If you haven't already, use MSI Afterburner to setup a custom fan profile. I imagine at the moment the fan speeds are at excessive levels for the corresponding temperatures.

Yes the card you have, its called something else now gaming edition etc) but its basically a lightning card. I have a hard time believing its noisier than a normal reference blower. Have you tried manually lowering the fan speed? What percentage is it running at?
Agreed, Gaming edition should be similar to the Lightning which is very quiet
Even at full tilt it shouldn't be noisy
Guys. I think I may have jumped the gun here. having taken of my side door its evident the noisy fan is from my CPU cooler. I have a new case and never noticed it before but thinking maybe its because my 480gtx was very loud. Sorry about this. now I need good advice on a good cpu cooler. AMD.

One problem with multi-socket compatable cooler is that the ones that are known to be great for Intel sockets not neccessary means it is just as good for the AMD socket, due to using different mounting method.
May be you can take this opportunity to pre-order one of the Manufacturer Refurbished Corsair H100 for under £40 from OcUK?

This CPU coolers are the "all-in-one" water-cooling solution for CPU. It already has its own tube, pump and mount, so it doesn't require DIY on setting up everything yourself...all you do mount the rad to the case, install the fans onto the rad, and then mount the pump onto the CPU/socket simliar to how you would instead a CPU cooler in general.
If you do go for the H100 though, it would be best check if your case is compatible with the 240mm rad. If not, the H80 at £36 is quite good as well, just need to mount the rad onto a 120mm fan mount of the case.
