GTX 770 fan replacement?

Hi all

I have a ZOTAC GTX 770 which is still going strong, and I can't exactly replace it given the stock situation.

However, the fan constantly speeds up and slows down every few seconds, from 30% to 100% speed repeatedly. I can force it to 100% with software but anything less and it keeps spiking again.

It only does it when the drivers are enabled in Windows (so not on the BIOS screen etc) but I'm pretty sure it's a hardware fault on the card somewhere.

I was hoping I can just wire the fan to the motherboard (if playing a game I can manually increase the speed) to keep it at a steady 50% or so. Or replace the fans entirely with something else.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure it is a hardware fault? I had a "similar" problem with my 770... turned out the fans were faulty, and they could not rotate at speeds of 30% or lower, so they would spin for a few seconds, and then stop. A deep clean and a little bit of oil solved the problem, altough they rattle bad at low speed sometimes... I guess I should have replaced the fans really, but I was meant to upgrade with a 3080/3070, so not sure if it is worth it at this point. I would suggest cleaning and checking the fans first... these cards are already like 7-8 years old?

if you need to replace them just pull of the plastic shroud and old fans and zip tie 2 120-140mm fans to the top and attach to the mobo headers, better cooling and should be quieter too. may not be the best looking fix but its works very well.
