GTX 770 Upgrade

Hey all,

So I'm after some advice from the community about my next graphics card upgrade.

I upgraded the majority of my setup late last year to the following:
5820K @ 3.3Ghz stock
Asus Armour V.1
16GB RAM
EVGA 770
Corasir 620W PSU - (being upgraded as it is starting to fail) - will probably be going to Corsair 850W

Currently I primarily play Planetside 2 and have recently started to play Just Cause 3 and it's really shown the age of the GTX 770.

I'm looking to upgrade to either a 1070 or 1080. I've been eyeing up the FTW range (especially as I've always had a good experience with the EVGA brand).

I game on a 27" Asus monitor @ 2560*1440 (60hz).

So, after all that my question; which would you go for between the 1070 and 1080?
I've got the money for both, but I'm finding myself in a situation where I am unsure whether to buy a 1070 and potentially sell it on when the 1080ti comes out or just go for the time old favourite of buying best I can get.
I think with the graphics card upgrade the monitor will in turn show its age (being locked at 60hz and no G-Sync) and so would want to upgrade that in the coming months to a Predator XB271HU 27".

Essentially I'm unsure whether the 1070 would be an unwise investment now if I upgrade to the Predator XB271HU 27".

Sorry, it's a bit of a ramble of a post, but I'm interested in peoples thoughts on approaches.

The additional performance of the 1080 for what £150-£200 is priceless, you won't get +20fps for that money anywhere else.

As for waiting well why wait for the 1080ti when the 1270 will outperform it ;)

I've gone from a GTX770 in SLI to the Gigabyte GTX1080 single card and i can only say "you will be shocked" how much better everything will be.

i'm also on 1440p but @ 120/140hz , i belive the 1070's are clocking well and offer great performance for the money compared to 1080 but 1080 just a bit more grunt.

EVGA FTW well you will be waiting a while before they sort out stock but to be honest looking around threads most if not all the 1080's are getting above or around the 2ghz mark

I know you said you're already getting a new corsair psu, but EVGA make some really nice gold rated psu's with excellent warranties (7/ 10years). I'm also looking to upgrade from corsair, which just seem to make bad psu's (from what I've owned).

Get the 1070, your 60Hz 1440p monitor will not be able to show any difference between 100fps with the 1070 and 120fps on the 1080. If you do go and get that Gsync monitor in the future then you will also not desperately need 20-fps extra on the 1080 as Gsync will help that out and the 1070 is an awesome 1440p card.

You will find when thd 1080Ti comes out the 1080 will be the most likely card to get a big drop in value as it's occupying that high end price. If you get a 1070 now it will more than do they job but also not lose bucket loads of value like when the 1080 shunted the 980Ti price down. The 780Ti was also released at $50 more than the 780 release price which annihilated it's value.

This should mean selling the 1070 for a 1080ti should be no problem as it's a price bracket that's a lot less likely to be affected by the £500+ cards prices. Honestly, the 1070 is over 100% faster than a 770, it will be a very good upgrade.

I don't think it's as simple as Corsair doing bad units, As an example the RM had problems with parts quality hence why the RMi & RMx which replaced it are promoted as now having All Japaneses 105 degree capacitors. I imagine the dodgy capacitors also got used in other psu's at the time but that isn't today.
I'm on a 5 year old 850 TX (This is what the RM replaced) It's bronze rated and it's done an excellent job, it's still doing an excellent job, The only reason I'm looking at an upgrade is because I want a modular model to clean up the cables. I'm definitely going to consider another Corsair, For me the brands in the running are Corsair, Superflower and EVGA.

Thank you all for your comments. Really appreciate your thoughts and feedback.
I think I'm going to give myself a month before pulling the trigger (assuming I can fight the itch that long!). By then hopefully stocks and prices will have evened out.
Re the PSU, was looking at the AX860i from Corsair. Did some reading and they come across as a good unit.
On a side note, I assume the currency fluctuations have started to filter through as both PSU and the EVGA FTW 1070 both seem to have jumped by £20 or so?

I would go for a seasonic psu personally
Some evga's use seasonsic or just get a retail seasonic

Flextronics makes the AX860i and i think the AX860 non i is seasonic
