Recently built a PC for some light gaming and just got into some issues.
Specs:
Intel Xeon E3-1245
MSI B75MA-P45
8GB DDR3 2x4
500gb HDD
240gb SSD
3x Silent Wings 3 Fans from be quiet!
Gainward GTX 780 Phantom/Phantom GLH
530W Thermaltake Smart SE Gold Efficiency PSU
I was running into crashes under heavy load ( games such as R6S , BF4 or lower load games with uncapped framerates)
The crashes never were with white lines or dots.
Mainly a blank colour screen ( green , grey , orange etc) and a stuck sound with only the power switch getting it back.
I tried underclocking it but whenever I tried doing it the PC after any modifications in AfterBurner started lagging really bad on desktop , moving fine then freezing and anything I clicked on giving a not responding message ( couldnt find a single thread about this) , tried every OC app all with the same results.
Gaming with a capped fps at lower settings works and I can play but as soon as I ramp up the settings it all goes to ****.
Temps are fine : 26-30C idle and max 74C before crashing under load.
Checked GPU-Z for clock speeds and whenever I searched up GTX 780 GLH in gpu Z all had a clock speed of 980 gpu , 1550 memory , 1033 boost while mine has 1130 gpu , 1750 memory , 1183 boost on default clocks and as I said whenever I change absolutely anything the PC starts lagging hard.
I suspect it may be my GPU , PSU or SSD giving up since I booted my system today and it was loading everything really slowly , things crashing etc.
Maybe the GPU bios is corrupt and that is why my PC lags after every change in oc apps.
EDIT 1: Flashed gpu bios , was able to finish heaven benchmark , will play some R6 and see if the issue is still there.
Hopefully it was only a bad bios on the card and the high clocks were causing it to crash
EDIT 2 : The bad bios was definitely the problem.
Managed to play BF4 maxed out , uncapped without a single crash which before crashed at the first 10 seconds.
I was about to give up on the card but glad I fixed it and only paid 45$ for it. ( Knew something was off with the card at this price)
