Hi, I'm selling a laptop that has a GTX 860M graphics card. The buyer wants to know whether the card supports 3D. I've googled this but can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Thanks

Is he wanting to hook up a 3D monitor and play games in Nvidia 3D Vision? Does he just mean play 3D games? I'm not really sure what he's trying to ask you.

I've had the following response from the buyer:

"I want to be able to use it with a pair of NVidia 3d glasses with the appropriate software installed of course.

right , is this your laptop ? , if so then it will have a service tag on the bottom, you can get all the specs you need from the dell/alienware support site.

A few alienware 17s have 120hz screens, but its usually the higher end models, not one with an 860m.

The GPU supports 3d vision with a 3d vision IR emitter and glasses, the screen probably doesn't.

You wouldn't want to do 3d vision with a low end GPU anyway, I have it with my dual 980s and really notice the hit - it halves your effective frame rates.

You can do 3d vision with an external screen but it won't work if the port is actually driven via optimus - I.e. it goes to the Intel GPU - it needs to connect to the nvidia GPU itself. On most alienwares, this means the display port. However, most 3d vision monitors are dual link dvi. So the ROG Swift would work being display port, but at this point the guy would be better buying a desktop.
