Gtx 970 black screen crash (no signal)

Well... I don't want to jinx my good run but I'm yet to have a crash so far. Admittedly I've only managed to try 3 or 4 games max but that's a good streak.

Fingers crossed!!!

Glad to hear it Emjay :) I had the same issue with my Z77 Gene V and 3770k.

Something definitely strange going on between the Realtek driver and the Nvidia HD audio driver. As you experienced, any time I install it I get 'driver has stopped responding and has recovered' or black screens.

I spoke too soon!

Whilst disabling all the sound sources except what I was using drastically reduced the frequency of the issue it came back earlier. I can't see anything popping up in event viewer.

Guess ill have to look at getting a new PSU afterall!

So then guys, payday is here and i have some cash to throw at a PSU. I don't care how much the PSU costs but im unsure how much power ill need and therefore ill need a suggestion. I saw the previous suggestion for 750W but is that overkill still?

Im planning on using the same specs as what I have posted above for the time being only to upgrade later the mobo, CPU and RAM. Those will highly likely be a high end bundle once I get the cash for it.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

looked at spec remembered my ocz psu with smoke coming out of it while playing bf3.

psu most likely. dont touch there psus.

your saying you'll more than likely end out upgrading to a high end bundle so if your going for a PSU now theirs a good chance it will carry over with you.

so what you need to ask is what power will you need when you upgrade? I went for the XFX XTR 750 on the thought I would possibly upgrade my hardware at some point so I wanted that bit extra..

it really depends on your budget plus what you think you might upgrade to.

In the grand scheme of things PSU are cheap so I'm happy to throw down £150 for a decent one. I'm unsure on the wattage I need but I'll be getting a Sabre tooth move most likely as I like the aesthetic and then whatever CPU and ram will go with that. Will 750W future proof me or will it be overkill is my main question. From there I'm thinking any superflower PSU of that wattage would suffice?

I would say 750W would future proof you without going overkill.

I was offered a brand new 1000W PSU before I bought my 750W there wasn't much in the price to be honest but I know 1000W would be overkill for anything I would ever use.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have been using the 1250W simply as it was powering 2 GTX 580's on a watercooling loop which were very power demanding. Now GPU's don't use so much in comparison so I obviously need less, I just wasn't sure how low I should go without being silly.

After having SLI once before and realising that theres really no benefit ill be sticking to a single GPU.

Thanks again :)

Ok guys, need a spot of help here!

I've just ordered a new PSU, great! So I carry on using my PC and about 5 mins into loading GTA 5 (normally runs fine) I get a black screen. I turn the PC off as I always have to in this state by the power switch on the case. Now when I startup the machine however I get to the operating system loading icon and then the whole screen goes black with a white line from left to right just above the halfway mark. At this stage the PC is unresponsive and I have to hard shut down again.

Is this the GPU now dead? Do I need to send it back to Galax for an RMA?

Quick update.

Not sure if it was me switching to the lower DVI slot or the fact that i used the reset button instead of the on/off but I managed to get my PC on again.

Something isn't happy though, thats safe to say!

Just to update you guys, new PSU completely fixed this issue!

I've tested it for around a week or two now and I can't replicate the error.

Thanks a bunch for all the feedback and help guys :)
