i currently have a gtx 670 and wanted an upgrade so I looked around and found the gtx 970. I made sure my 750 watt psu could power it and bought it. When it arrived yesterday I swapped them over but when I tried to boot up again all I get is a solid white line in the top left of my monitor. It does not even reach the bios. Can anyone figure out why? My motherboard is Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-UD5H.

Thank you for replying but for some reason as I have 64 bit there is no compatable update.

As stated by Gregster you may need to upgrade the Bios:

May want to also check if you have a rev 1.0 or 1.1 board it should be printed on the motherboard, however the Bios updates look the same.

I would suggest refitting the 670 and with CPU-Z or Speccy check the bios that is installed on the motherboard currently.

If it needs updating. Go for the latest.

Use DDU to remove current Nvidia drivers, it should put the computer into safe mode then select remove and shut down for installing new GPU.

Once done, remove the 670, fit the 970 ensuring cables are correctly fitted, ensure the monitor is set for the correct I/P (DVI/HDMI or DP).

Fire up the computer and install the latest Nvidia drivers for your OS.

Hopefully this should sort it for you. If not back to the drawing board.

I am sure someone with more know how will be able to help.

Also check your boot order :)

All sorted and working 100%. Only problem I had was not booting from the right SSD but that was quickly solved. Thanks everyone for the help.
