I am still researching 970 cards and really like the offering from MSI but for one major problem. My colour scheme is blue and white and this is red so will look out of place no matter how good the card is.

My next choice is this http://www.evga.com/Products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=d8328514-f9bc-44aa-ae85-d50c9f433297 Or waiting on the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ ACX 2.0+. Or even the Asus but that one is less likely as I think it is ugly with the pipe coming out the top.

Then I had another look at my finances and the possibility of getting a 980 looks possible. If so is it worth it? And which one?

So looking for advice on both the 970 which to be honest is a more realistic purchase or the slight chance of the 980.

The general advice given is get the best GPU you can afford.

The 970 does things effortlessly for me at 1080p, even with stock clocks, but you're at 1440p. A 970 with a decent OC should be fine but maybe some 970 owners using 1440p can give some input.

I would go for the 970. A 980 is almost 2x the price and about 5-10% better? Seems daft. If it was 25%+ I would possibly consider it.

Have a look at the Gigabyte 970 G1. I have two of them & performance is excellent.
They also light up in blue so will match your colour scheme.

Thanks will have a look.

What resolution do you game at? Planning on SLI? Planning on more monitors?

And I tend to game at 1440. Possible SLI in the future yes, and I am looking to move to a 32" monitor this year

Thanks worth noting.

I'd go 980 if you can afford it especially since you're gaming at 1440 and mainly because the 980 has no problem utilising the full 4gb.

I have the OcUK reference 970s in SLI and in most games they are really good but once in a while you find a game like Dragon Age Inquisition where SLI is really broken and considering it's a game that I'd like to play again soon it's annoying having to turn off SLI and use just a single card with some settings turned down.

If I could go back I'd have gone 980 or 980 SLI and just give the 970 a miss.

Once again it does depend on your finances and the 970 is no slouch either it's just not for me.
