Hi guys,

comparing the Gtx 970 maxwell with the amd r9 290 oc edition.

I know most reviews favour the gtx, however my question is, is the price difference really worth it? As the gtx is £273 and amd £233.

Just to point out though, at present I have a r9 270x 2gb and want to upgrade to crank up the detail settings playing on a 1980 x 1080 resolution....

If you have a decent 600w-ish PSU, the 290x is better value for money. I think the 970 generally shades it at 1080p, but whether the difference is worth the extra 20pc outlay depends on how important the extra 40 quid is to you.

Edit - this applies to the 290x, which I assume you're referring to. Not so much the plain 290.
 
It doesnt state x, think its just the 290 version.

I have both SLI 970s and 290X and both are great.

Only very small concern I would add is the 290X is nearly a year older tech (Oct 2013) than the 970 (which came out Sept 2014). Will they stop support for newer tech earlier for the 290X due to it being older ie. DirectX 12.1() etc..?????:confused:

Rumours suggest DirectX12 titles will bring about many enhancements and improvements for all capable cards.
