What's up guy's

Basically i got the msi 970 recently and it does do well on my 1440p, coming from a tri x 290 it was is a bit of a side grade with a smidgen of performance on top but not really complaining as i am pleased with the thermals, sound and features, but i'm contemplating sli because i just like more raw power.

Should i do it now or wait till prices drop, or for something new from the reds and greens.

I would wait. Christmas isn't far away which means the January sales aren't either. You'll get a better deal if you wait.

Without knowing what your personal finances are like it is difficult to say, if it was me, at 1440, i would be running Sli, but it depends how willing to wait you are

To be honest, I dont think we are going to see particularly big drops on the 970, the next round of gpu's are likely to be big ones at big prices, so 970 sli would probably still be the best option, so at best you are going to save £30-50 by waiting 6 months

Edit, yeah sometimes ocuk do Christmas/January prices, like 5% off codes or £20-30 off

If it was me I would just buy the 2nd 970 now, but that is just because I have to feed my upgrade itch and £30 either way wouldnt stop me

Yep, i'm feeling what both of ya saying, you see right now i can get another one close to the £20-30 off on it, and i have until the 29th.
What to do, what to do?

I have not had any experience with ocuk in the January sales, are they on top?

You bet they are!

For the last 2 years, they've had threads going where you can request discounts for products you're looking to buy. Gibbo does whatever feesable discounts he can.

However, there is no guarantee the same will happen but there will definitely be deals to be had.

Just buy it now. Then you can buy lots of games in the Xmas sale and play them at full fat settings. DO IT! DOOOOO IT!!!!! What's a few quid saved when these cards will be worth £100 less in a year or two anyway.

Yeah man. The only things coming up are going to be high end and shouldn't do much to the pricing of these cards. At best you could save £30-£40 in a sale so it's up to you as to whether that's worth waiting for. I say throw caution to the wind. 1440p is better with 2 cards, and it will last you a good while before you feel the itch. Besides, a case just looks so empty with one gpu in it.

E: Don't you already have 2 tri x 290s?

Who knows. I doubt AMD will have anything as efficient in the pipeline, but they may outperform it. I have to say that I do quite envy the low temps and power draw of these cards compared to my tri x 290s, so again it's down to priorities. NVIDIA only just released the 970/980 range so I doubt you'll find anything really special appearing that would knock them off their perch just yet.

I just came from Xfire 290 tri x and just sold the second one yesterday, your right the power and the efficiency out do them easily, and you would think that they wouldn't release something close to it now but these companies sometimes do some strange things and the end of the day they just want to squeeze us as much as they can.
