GTX 970 slow booting

Hey all, recently switched from an AMD 7970 to a new GTX 970 and everything is working fine except the system is taking an absolute age to boot up. On start up the system seems to hang on a black screen with a B2 code on it for around a minute before finally moving past that and loading up windows.

Also if I try to enter BIOS the system will just hang on an empty black screen and refuse to do anything else. A quick google search suggested a CMOS reset which I tried but to no avail. I'm guessing the next thing to try is a BIOS update? But would be a little tricky to do without actually being able to enter BIOS. I'm also pretty reluctant to do this anyway unless it's the last possible option. My system specs are as follows:

Intel Core i5-3570K
MSI Z77A-GD55 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Blu 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 EX OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Anybody have any ideas of what else to try? Cheers.

Hi

You probably need a Bios update for your motherboard just use the motherboards on board hdmi/dvi connector so you can get in the Bios if your having problem with the gpu.

Hi all,

Just wanted to register to say that I had the exact same problem described in this post, and booting using MSI's BIOS flash update tool, to bring my BIOS up to the latest version, resolved the problem. I also cleared CMOS + reset BIOS to factory defaults once the BIOS was updated, before booting back into windows.

Using MSI's 'Live Update' tool from within Windows did not work.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, just sharing in case anyone else comes across the same problem.
