i thinking of getting a g-sync 144hz monitor with my new rig and also a another monitor just a standard 1080p one. so the g-sync one will be my main/gaming one and the other for well other stuff lol.

but as the post goes is the gtx 970 still worth it despite memory issues, im looking at sli for them or is there a better option other than the expensive 980

i play on a 144hz gsync monitor, I've just returned my 970's due to the VRAM Issues.

I had stutters in games (BF4,Crysis,SoM) but the settings where maxed.

I would go for the 290X 8gb Xfire or the advice i have been given is to wait for the 3 series.

It's fine if you want to reduce settings to keep below the vram limit of 3.5GB

If you want to run full everything then look at the 980 or AMDs offerings. Obviously you can't go with G-sync if you go with AMD

Going 1440p and/or running the 970's in SLI are going to increase your chances of experiencing issues. The card is very good as a single device running 1080 but from my experience running two and trying out higher resolutions there will be issues.

With the 970's you will probably need to keep reducing the graphical settings to keep under a certain vram threshold, despite the cards having the 'grunt' to run higher.

If you want a card now I would advise a good 980, as your g-synced it really is the best option, 970 or even second hand 780ti's would be OK for the short term but I think you'll end up reaching the vram wall even with mid/low settings before the years up.
