so just got a 2nd hand gtx 970 today and well Im over the moon with it.
so after having the msi 7950 for a good while theres a massive improvement in my eyes.

so anyhow on to the point... when I first got my 7950 it ran warm and I removed the cooler and replaced the stock thermal paste with artic silver and this made a great improvement on the temps.
Is there any point in doing it with the Gainword gtx 970 Phantom?
or do you think the stock thermal paste will be better than what was on the 7950?

Whilst i'm one for replacing the stock thermal paste on all my cpus and gpus its only when the oem application has been poor or is past its best that its really made a difference thats more than 1 or 2 degrees.

If its something thats bothering you then do it , however i wouldn't use AS5, its quite poor as thermal pastes go these days.

its not bothering me Im fairly happy with the temps it idles around the same as the 7950 did and I would say is cooler under load. ( ive only had it installed a few hours )
it was just a thought as I had to do this with the 7950 and it did make a difference..

what thermal paste would you recomend? just ive used AS5 on my cpu:eek:

Always used MX2/3/4 through the years-5870/6950(mgpu)7970/7950mgpu/290Xmgpu/970.

You need to spread it on gpu core, no gpu blobs.
