Hi Guys,

I am wondering if you can help.

With my Card on stock clocks (Galax 980 SOC) I always hit around 84c on the core temperature, the backplate is so hot that I cannot touch it.

Is that about right for the 980? I thought they were 'cool' running?

Is it a reference card?

If so, seems normal for an OC'd card under load.

It's not a reference card, it has triple fans, and those temperatures are not normal. Have you checked if the fans are running?

Yes, and Yes, the fans are running all of them, and they ramp up also.

I was thinking, a full block on it maybe, the only block I can find for this board is: Alphacool NexXxoS GPX - Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 M04

However, would the EK Thermosphere work, would I need VRM covers also?

Would it be worth reapplying some thermal paste do you think?

Would that void my warranty?

EDIT: I don't think there are any stickers over the screw holes, so might do it, to see if it makes a difference!

if not reference that sounds rubbish. My MSI gaming 980 barely ever goes above 65 degrees, in the summer and it stays basically silent whilst doing so.

Nope, flashed the stock BIOS to it now, I don't think there are any differences, other than now my system display 'Nvidia BIOS' information upon bootup.
