GTX 980 ti Question

Hello Folks

I need some help/advice as I am in bit of a dilemma. I bought an Zotac 980 ti AMP (From competitor so cannot name) and I have heard that EVGA hydro coppers will be available soon. So my question is should I return the Zotac and go for the Hydro Coppers or keep my Zotac? I can also get an EK block and slap it on myself but I would lose the backplate as it would not be compatible.

Cheers.

EK make backplates that go with their full cover blocks. Although are you sure EK make a block that is compatible with your model?

Guess you need to weigh up whether it would be financially worth your while, or whether you can be bothered putting block on yourself.

I dont think the Zotac AMP is a custom PCB as it has a 6 + 8 pin for power therefore I thought it was a reference pcb. I know EK makes backplate but thats another £25 to spend.

I just had a quick check on here and looks like you are out of luck as far as a full cover block is concerned. But I may not have selected your correct model so feel free to have a look yourself. That may make your decision that bit easier.

I don't know if Zotac put stickers over the screws, but 'officially' removing the cooler to install a water block voids your warranty.

the amp! is a referenced model, the AMP extreme is the only custom PCB zotac are using, thus, the EKWB FC block should fit it fine.

Hydrocopper has had two batches available directly, (missed both) Not sure when there will be more availability, but I am not willing to pay OCUK the £100 mark up they have on it, so I am waiting for someone else to get stock.

You void your zotac warranty if you remove their cooler. So, I would recommend going with an EVGA card if you are watercooling yourself, or buying the hydrocopper, poseidon, arctic storm, ocuk tech labs models.

I think i will get the Hydrocoppers and return the AMP

Guys before I firmly make up my mind and repack it does it void warranty just by removing the cooler? If so is EVGA the only manufacturer who allows cooler to be removed?

Thanks

I was about to take the gpu out of the case when i realised there is no stickers over the screw. Does it mean that the warranty wont be void if i remove the cooler carefully?

no stickers etc means if you do it perfectly, they won't be able to tell either way. But if they are strict, then if you mark the screws etc they could deny it. Zotac used to allow cooler replacement, it was why I bought their GTX 295's. But they now explicitly state that it voids warranty with them.

So, if you do it, you will never know for sure unless you have to RMA it.
