I have been saving now for a little while, to build my first gaming PC for sometime after being on console now for 10+ years. Got told to wait Ryzen what i have done. I am now in position i have the funds to build most of it but the graphics card, i have been looking at getting a RX480 or RX580 but they seem to be hard to find at the moment and i would need to save for another two months maybe three. Anyway my close friend is now selling his GTX980 Gigabyte Windforce OC graphic card as he has brought a 1080. He has offered it to me for £100 before slaps it on Ebay £200+. I would rather wait and have all new component but i know the GTX980 was a great card at the time. Is it worth it then buy myself a better card later on?

There is absolutely no point in paying the current prices for the rx 480/580 and thats coming from someone who has owned one and absolutely loved the card but the prices makes no sense right now. I think if the card is in proper shape then 100 pounds for a 980 is not a bad buy. Its a solid card. Of course it would help if we knew what kind of resolution you are trying to push. 1080p?

Yeah 1080p to start with and i would like to move up 1440 later on.

Gtx980 for £100 is a steal in the current climate.

I know every time i look at the prices of the RX line up they seem to be increasing each time.

I went from a 970 to a 980 to a 980Ti

The 980 (when overclocked to 1500 core) is snapping at the heels of a stock 980Ti. Very capable card is the 980. I'd take it for £100, bargain!

Yeah, I sold one to a mate at £135. Would have fetched close to £200 on an auction site, maybe a bit more as it was an EVGA about a year old with almost two years of warranty.

For 100 quid, it's a no brainer.

I have a EVGA 980 and its absolutely top notch tbh. Still got a couple years warranty myself so not looking to upgrade until 1180/1280 even. It'll play anything you chuck its way. £100 is a bargain, top friend!

Also runs nice and cool, mine was about 60c under load. The 980Ti could get a little toasty. If you also get a good clocker, mine went to 1536Mhz, for 100 quid it'll probably be the best value you ever get out of a PC component.
