Hi Guys,

I think I have finally convinced myself to buy 2 of these bad boys soon. I have been racking my brains reading threads here, and other things around the net trying to figure out if I should get 2 x 780ti's or 2 x 290x's and finally settled on the 780's.

Now comes the just as hard decision of choosing which brand to buy. The prices do vary slightly on here but not by a great deal. Are there and specific recommendations on which will be best? I usually like to get gigabyte as I have read in a few places they have good support here in the UK if I have any issues down the line. Is that a good enough reason to just go for it, or is there a better brand out there.

This is going to be just for gaming really, I don't get involved in benchmarking (I know people may say this is overkill, maybe it is, but I have the finances to get this done now, and this may not be the case moving forward so why not, its my money? :P)

ps. I am really really not intending to cause any arguments here, I now people can be quite passionate about there gfx's brand, but if there is an honest genuine reason I should re consider the 290x then I am willing so hear it out.

I mainly will be using this for BF3/4, CIV 5, minecraft (haha) I also really like the look of titan fall although I'm not sure how taxing that will be. I am also looking at trying Crysis 3 out as well.

For me, you have EVGA/Gigabyte/MSI as choices. All have great RMA service and all are solidly built cards.

What is the rest of your spec Jolli?

I have a 4770k, Z87X-OC, Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 850W power supply and I am currently running 2 670 4gb.

I have 2 Dell U2412M's and will be looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor (liking the look of the Asus PB278Q to be honest, but I am still working on that one and have not yet made a firm decision)

I am under the impression that I should be ok with the PSU I am currently running (feel free to correct me I thats wrong), but am open upgrading that as well if it is warranted as there is no point laying down £1100+ on 2 cards and not having a decent power supply running them. From what I have read the "SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W" would seem to be more than capable and seems to be well priced, and reviews well, but again if there are better options as similar price points then I am all ears.

Ok, good news on the psu front, can save a few more quit there and use that on the monitor front if needed, or maybe a new HDD.

All 3 of the EVGA, Gigabyte and MSI card are withint £20 of each other atm as well, I might just look at picking the one I think looks the nicest then if it is just a toss up between them all.

I've just this week made the journey you're contemplating. Gone from 670 SLI to 780Ti SLI. Got a thread on here somewhere ( look for 'am I mad') :)

Main thing I was worried about was my PSU. Had an xfx 750w silver, which did run the Ti's in SLI, but made a horrible horrible buzzing noise. I thought it was the cards at first but ordered a new super flower psu to check, and it was the PSU.
I went for 2 inno3d reference designs. One cos they were the cheapest, on offer lest week, and 2 I thought I'd go for 2 exhaust coolers this time. All running v well now, have yet to test everything out properly yet though.

I have already read your thread, and to be honest it was my motivation to add in that point. I may just play it safe and order a PSU when I get the cards to be on the safe side, if it is not needed (will try my supply first) and return if needed. You went for the super flower one right? Are you happy with it?

Just do it, hands down the best setup I've ever had. The cards run ridiculously fast, are very cool and quiet and look nice in the case. If you get them you won't be disappointed.

Early days, but So far I'd say the superflower 1000w platinum is a real cracker. Fully modular which is nice, very nice build quality, and the the connectors light up white. Sad but nice :)
It's also v quiet, and has an Eco button on the back which means the fan doesn't even spin up until it's needed. It's off most if the time in my system! The extra wattage gives me the headroom to mess about with proper overclocking if I get the bug too.

I reckon your current psu will deffo be up to the task of making 780ti SLI 'work', but I think when you're pushing psu's to their upper limits you're more likely to get coil whine / buzzing noises like I had, or other potential problems.

You should think ASUS DC2. In my experience its the best Ti so far. Great cooler. Solid build. Strong PWM. This one wins my vote.

If it's anything like the sample that 8 Pack tested I'd agree with that! Some properly impressive clocks for air. Seems a very good card the DC2

You won't regret buying any Ti though, they're awesome cards.

Get at least three or go home though ;)

You could save yourself a good £200-£240 (reference vs non-ref and deals etc) by getting two 780 non-ti instead - would batter absolutely everything you throw at it at 1440p. I'd only recommend 780ti SLI if you're going for a multi-monitor setup, or plan to do serious 4k downsampling :)

@wunkley - good news then. I think I will go for the same PSU when I do this. Don't really want to be worrying about this, just want it to be a smooth transition. If it turns out I really don't need it, then I can always return it.

I was looking at the Asus but it is was about £60 more expensive than the MSI and Gigabyte, but it seems the "this week only" offers have just changed around today and it seems to be one of the cheapest available (only the KFA2 is cheaper)

What are the Asus RMA's like, does anyone have any experience? Hopefully there would be no issues, but with the amount I will be spending, I just want to make sure I will be ok.

@Tropicocity Yea I was thinking the same as one point, but to be honest I have the cash now, and I though "Why not?". When this is done, I don't plan on upgrading for a long time, so I may as well get the best I can right now. Seems a bit silly I think, but oh well.

@MjFrosty Haha, budget doesn't stretch that far I'm afraid haha!

ASUS RMA and support isn't great, unfortunately.
Also the reviews I've seen of its cooling performance aren't very good. Techpowerup show it to be as loud as the reference cooler and only 3C cooler.

Very helpful link, thanks a lot. Ok well a bit more to think on then, I think I may look at the Gigabyte one. I don't want to needlessly sacrifice performance on the off chance something may or may not go wrong, but I am also quite the worrier, so I may just use them for peace of mind. I have read in the past that they are good, and that thread seems to reinforce it.

Bit of a bugger really as the price has just gone up today now that the deal has gone off, might wait a while and see what happens.

Have a look here >> http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/?category=Video+Cards&manufacturer=&pp=25&order=date

MSI GTX 780 Ti Gaming 3 GB scored the highest 9.9, I'm almost on the verge of buying one myself - look at the low noise/temp ratio, that's with a review BIOS clocked straight in at 1020Mhz on the core.

If your going SLI maybe you would be better off with a pair of reference coolers, unless you have a case with good cooling, side exhaust?

I have the same case as you (or what is in your sig, Air 540).

Might need to look into the ref then, or maybe try and get better cooling in my case, not sure.
