Hi all

Need help with this which card question...

I am getting a new Quad conroe system soon, and would like to get SLI'd GTX's but i cant really justify the price. So my question is if i got 2 640MB GTS's would I still be able to play games like Cysis, Alan wake, UT3, Test Drive at maximum settings with AA,AF on my current display (2405, 1920x1200)?

Or would it be better to just get the single GTX and maybe upgrade later? I cant actually get the new setup for another three weeks any ways.

Any views and suggestions will be greatly appreciated
as always.:D

GTS SLI will still top the GTX in performance in most, if not all games, so if you're buggered for cash at the moment, there is nothing stopping you getting a GTS and another GTS later.

Just make sure the pricepoint is bette, so your GTS's will total no more than the GTX price now, not later. :)

I would go for the single GTX.

I've had SLI in the past (6800GTs and 7800GTXs), and to be honest the benchmarks are somewhat decieving. For example, 60fps on an SLi setup does not appear as smooth as 60fps with a single card The frames are not output at uniform intervals in AFR mode (the most commonly implemented SLI rendering mode), and your eye notices the maximum gap between frames rather than the raw number of frames being output. Add to this the various incompatability issues...

I'm not going back to SLI, and on top of that the GTX should handle anything you throw at it.

Nobody really knows what you'll need to play those future games at max but it would be safe to assume the fastest gfx card in the world and the fastest CPU in the world will handle them quite nicely.

SLI could come in the future if you really deem it necessary
