Hey guys.

I'm building a new gaming rig, I'm a gamer, so i don't overclock much.

And i've chosen the BFG 8800 ULTRA for the graphics card.

I've heard a lot of people saying that the GTX is better than the ULTRA.

So how is the GTX better?

It's got lower specs.

Is it just the Money differance of something?

Im not planning on overclocking the gfx card. So the Ultra is the most logical choice right?


Please shed some light on this situation.
 
At higher RES its worth it and who knows on new games out soon may help at more normal RES, price of both cards have fell lots recently.

Skip to page 10 onwards if you only want to see benches, some them gains are big.

I try to play at 1920x1440, if its struggles I would need to lower res or get new card.

And to the question you ask, NO how can the GTX be better, unless better value for money then sure, but that aside the Ultra is worlds fastest card ever to date.

Hmm, who are you to fix anything ?

The recently talk is the new cards are out in Nov (possibly), reason I use "THINK" not "ARE", lots of threads point to this, are you going to mess up another thread getting at me ?.

Dont take it personally mate, if someone else said that i would do exactly the same.

And by the way i dindt change think i changed the "We" part.
 
Ok fair enough but I meant "think" as in not 100% concrete, the old story if you remember was G92 was low/mid range and Nov release and the G90 high end was next year (poss Feb) now there is no G90 and all are G92 and all are Nov release :confused:, you read same ?

The Ultra is obviously the faster card but it's only 5-12% faster then GTX and costs another £100. If you think that a pathetic increase like this is worth £100 then by all means buy the Ultra.
 
there does seem to be a big performance difference in that above guru32 review someone posted. at the high rez there is considerable advantage to the ultra.
 
40-50FPS gain IMO aint pathetic, going by some of the benches above, and that was all bellow 1600x1200 as most will be gaming at.

The OP needs to come back with his monitor size/spec and ideal gaming res.

Cyber that was me, yes uber res it seems to help but take look at page 13 for example, SC-Chaos Theory, look at the 3 resolutions upto and inc 1600x1200, the Ultra is well ahead by nearly 40FPS at 1 point. 98 v 133.

Again both cards are bog standard models, you do get faster ones of each and can OC yourself although no guarentee.

Buy a GTX clock it to ultra speeds and put the 100squid u saved towards a DX10.1 upgrade in a few months.

( u dont need to be a pro to clock the card its just a case of moving 2 sliders and ticking a box in rivatuner :D )
 
His Memory probably wont reach even the slower models 2160mhz speed as its not 0.8ns Ram.

22" Gateway FPD13D Monitor < What is spec and res of this as I cant find info, CRT or LCD ?

You could, probally hit 2000mhz on the memory. And around 650 on core which will be right by the ultra.
 
Yes 2000mhz is about right if a good card.

But the OP wants 1 or the other, he stated he aint going to OC so he is not going to try make a GTX into a Ultra (speed wise), he still aint came back and I cant find jack **** on his monitor hmm.

I dont think the new cards are November, all we have had saying they will be is a post on a forum, November is now 3x months away, we have heard absolutely nothing else since that post on a forum, we would have more info leaked by now imo with the supposed launch being so close.
