Oh wise people of OcUK,

What are the differences between these two cards? I know they are different yet the 1060 and 1080 versions are the same.

So what are the differences and what effect will that have on gaming?

Many thanks.

Usually the mobile versions don't perform nearly as well as the full sized desktop ones. Due to heat limitations.

Results 2 x GTX 1080 (notebook) = 27403 in firestrike.

vs

Results 2 x GTX 1080 (desktop) = 28396 in firestrike.

The notebook and the desktop in the tests have the same CPU. Firestrike search facility wouldn't bring up the results for a single 1080, hence the SLI option chosen for the example.

Less than 1,000 point between them.

Previously the mobile renditions of a graphics card would be weak and nothing compared to the full sized desktop version, but the 10 series NVidia are providing the same level of power within negligible limits.

Good point about the heat however, I wonder how a laptop is supposed to deal with that much heat. My 1070 was supposed to run super cool with it's ACX 3.0 cooler and even with that I still need to turn on all my case fans otherwise it throttles it's power output down.
