Morning all,
Recently purchased a Zotac 1660 Twin Fan after my aging GTX260 popped its clogs - overkill for the current system but the plan was to upgrade once the new Ryzen gear hits the shelves.
Obviously my Abit IP35 Pro XE board is ancient but with PCIE being backwards compatible I didn't think there would be a problem. Likewise my Corsair TX650 should offer plenty of power what with the recommendation being 450w for the card.
However the 1660 fails to display a picture once Windows 10 attempts to load the drivers (419.35) - the system will display POST and the initial W10 loading screen but then goes blank.
Without the drivers installed, and/or in Safe Mode, it displays a picture.
I've reset the BIOS (latest stable version); tried the second PCIE slot (I thought it did boot up correctly once but could have been mistaken); connected power to the Abit's additional molex connector on the board; removed all non-essential components in case it was a power issue (could still be); reinstalled the drivers (used DDU to remove before reinstall) multiple times and I'm just about to give a Beta BIOS update a whirl but I'm all out of ideas otherwise.
I did notice that when W10 attempts to load the drivers and the screen goes blank (no signal) that my USB mouse loses power.
From reading around, this could possibly be a power issue??
And from what I understand I can't used previous version of drivers other than 419.35 as that's the only version that supports the card?
Unfortunately I haven't got another (decent wattaged) power supply to try nor another more-up-to-date system to test the card in, so I'm a bit stuffed there.
But has anyone got any other ideas I could try before I RMA/send the card back (or just bite the bullet and upgrade the lot now)?
TL;DR - Was I expecting too much from my aging system?
Spec (nothing else powerwise is in the case) -
Q6600 (now stock)
Abit IP35ProXE
8GB Ram - Mixture of Kingston and Crucial
Samsung Evo 850
Corsair TX650
Noctua CPU fan (Thermaltake cooler)
1660 that won't work
