Ok when my bits finally arrived it was time to build, the new parts are a corsair tx750w psu, a BFG gtx260 maxcore ocx and two WD caviar blue 640's.

Previous system was

Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz watercooled
asus p5q
4Gb blackdragon 6400Mhz ram
Nv 8800gts 320mb @ 594/1512/864
WD 500GB aaks
tagen 480w psu no 6pin pci-e conectors
24" monitor 1920*1200
vista 64

Now the very first thing I noticed about the new gpu was that its a lot longer than my previous one so when I tried to fit it I found that the drive cage was in the way.
So it was out with the jigsaw..... a few seconds later and now it fits. :D

Next job was to fit all the HD's which fortunatly go in without the card getting in the way.

Then the beast of a PSU, I can see why they started making these high power PSU's modular, how many cables

Of course with so many cables it's going to be hard to try and find places to hide them all, well im not too bothered as long as they dont interfere with airflow too much.

Theres loads......read about half...:) of the cables in a big bundle on the other side of the drive bays (im not opening it up again just to get a image but im sure youve all seen a hidden cables bundle before ;) ).
Close the case up and im good to go. :p

Good job and great pics. :) That GTX260 is very long indeed. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet but I will be on Tues when mine arrives. :)
I can't believe the amount of cables on that 750W Corsair, you did a good job at hiding them though. Glad I bought a modular now but the 750W is a good price.

Thats a lot of cables, I was hoping to get a smaller case than my current one for my next build but looking at these pictures I think I will be staying with a large one with a modular PSU

Thank you for all the comments so far...as for the case I think greywolf sums it up nicely

Looks like power over looks :)

At the end of the day who cares what it looks like, it sits under the desk with a cupboard up against one side and my legs up against the other, when my legs are not there my chair is. As long as it works then its fine in my book.

I will say one thing though case temps have gone down 4'C now that the gtx260 expells its hot air out the back considerably better than the old 8800gts 320.

i still think a new case is on the cards tho mate. get an antec 900 or summat similar and watch your temps drop even further ;)

More probably down to the fact that the 260 uses far less power at idle approximately 25 W in 2D and the frequencies are dropped to 300 MHz for the GPU and 100 MHz for memory. The cards have a chip that monitors the GPU use rate constantly, and using that information the driver automatically adjusts the frequency, the voltage and the activity of each part of the circuitry. Start playing a game and it will soon get warm :D

Retro is cool man!

You should see a mates build I helped him do on the cheap.... We used my old dual P2 server case th house the monster :D

The 4'c was with prime and furmark running....maximum load= maximum heat :D

Glad you got managed to fit it but them hard drives need sorting asap. If you look on the metal housing you will see a pin point sized hole which you must not cover. Ideally you want a good few cm gap between each HD and a fan at one end.

If you're totally against a new case then take out the middle drive and mount it somewhere else in the case but you really should not leave it like it is.

The hole is just there to equalise internal pressure so temperature doesn't effect the seals. I don't think being that close will cause a problem so long as they have a bit of cooling.

I thinks its down to the fact that the old 8800gts dosnt exhuast it air out the back hardly at all...there is vents all over the card, where as the gtx260 does vent it all out the back.
