We all know how notorious nvidia are with their product renaming but this really takes the cake:

It's ridiculous for them to claim that these cards are the mobile equivalent of the desktop gtx280/260. Sure, mobile variants are always cut down version with possible downclocks and a few stream processors removed but these cards have just over half of that of desktop cards and with lower clocks. They're basically renamed 9800m which were 8800m at first anyways. What's even funnier is that they claim this is 50% more powerful than the mobility 4870, which as far as I know has the full 800 stream processors, although with slightly reduced clock speed.

In other news(somewhat old), there are apparently laptops with the 4870x2... http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/asus-debuts-18-4-inch-w90-gaming-laptop-at-ces-2009

I really, really wish Nvidia would stop all this marketing BS. Producing good cards at good prices should be their strategy, instead of constantly seeking to mislead the consumer wherever they can.

dont they get it? i mean doing it once and anoying everyone in the market is one thing...doing it again and again is on a totally new scale. its just blatant bull..

next card will be ATI tbh.

Its not that bad in the sense they are changing the 9 series into 200 series (GTS 250 etc); but even that is wrong. Had they kept the 9 series name and just done this to fool laptop consumers then it would have been even worse.

well i doubt u need something as 280m in a laptop now at least is someone is really on the move + it will drain battery really quickly. i have 9600 gt on my lappy with p8600 2.4ghz dual core 4 gig of ram it handles pretty much everything i use.

Phrases/words that come to mind ref nvidia and its marketing

'lost the plot'

'desperate'

'sad'

Resulting in ...... AMD.

I jumped ship after I made the mistake of buying the 9800GTX to replace a 8800Gt at a cost of £100 to appreciate later that it was not , in fact, the 'upgrade' I thought it was.

Do not see me returning to the fold in the near future.
