Hi guys, new to this forum
im building a new computer with the spec below
Q6600 2.4ghz Quad Core
4gb 800mhz ddr2 ram
500gb 7200 HDD
dvd rewriter
gtx280
780i nvidia motherboard
vista

i want to play cod4, crysis, tf2, css, etc

i was wondering what was the best size monitor for gtx280
im stuck between 22' (1650x1050) and 24 (1900x1200)

how would crysis play on those resolutions?

CLAIMED! haha wooo

24" is minimun lol well worth investing in, ecspecially seen as you have a 280, a 22" just wont do any justice for your card.

Will have to trim down on AA though with such high res

wow guys thanks for all the help
looks look im going for a samsung 24inch
how will the gtx 280 run crysis at 1900x1200 on-
1. All High
2. All Very High
:)

thats good
i just want a computer that will run crysis at 1900x1200 with good details and no lag

oh and another thing:)
i have heard that the Q6600 is not a good processor for gaming with is this true?

haha, because i heard that i was thinking of changing the Q6600 for the newer Q9 series of quad core processors
would there be much difference between the Q6's and the Q9's :)

More cache, higher stock speed, 45nm goodness meaning for higher fsb clocks!

Erm simple short answer......Yes

Though get and older version of the q6600 and you still have an amzing CPU that will cut it

ok thanks, sorry for all the question, i do know a bit about computers but i just wanted some opinions and advice for getting a new one:)

is 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram enough? or should i upgrade to something below- (would there be a noticeable difference between 800mhz and 1066mhz)

- 4gb ddr2 1066mhz
- 4gb ddr3 1066mhz

thanks again:D

Nothing wrong with the Q6600 but, if gaming is the main application, then a similarly priced dual-core would perform better at stock speeds and would likely clock further.

Regards Crysis, don't expect to play at 1920x1200 with AA on a single GTX280, although AA isn't really needed at 1920x1200 in this game anyway as it looks so damned good already.

Hmmmmmmmmm

Oh and not much notocable diffrence between pc6400 and pc8500 ram.

DDR3 i say dont bother lol extreme prices plus will mean expensive mobo!

I would drop the Q6600 and pickup a E8XXX series.

I did some testing in Crysis on my Q9450 @ 3Ghz and switching to a E8500 at 3.9 raised the mins by 10 fps using the inbuilt bench mark. Thats at 1920x1200 All Enthu apart from post and shadows on gamer.

i had kinda planned to keep the processors stock :(

and i also thought that getting a quad core processor over a dual core processor would make my system more 'future proof'
and i also want to run cs4 and video editing so i thought a quad core would help with that aswell

You'll only find all High playable. Ignore the benchies, they're overly positive. Unless you don't mind lower fps, I like silky smooth gameplay :)

BTW the 4870 X2 / 4870 CrossFire is no faster in Crysis, so don't feel like you got the wrong card.

Your min FPS will suffer at stock which pretty much negates having a high end card.

You may find a bottle neck if you stay at stock!

Like i said earlier you wont be doing your card justice with a 22", same with CPU, you wont be doing it justice with stock settings?

You have to overclock the CPU and have huge monitor! Thats why you bought the 280 right?
