Just picked up a Gainward GTX280 on the £240 deal, having real problems with it. I did a Fresh install of Vista4 when i installed the card installed the drivers and everythign seemed ok.
However when I power off the computer and reboot it, the driver magically uninstall themselves and when i go to reinstall them I get a message saying thedriver install cannot find compatible hardware. Restarting makes no difference.

I have tried Reinstalling Vista again, it works off the bat but after a power down same problem.

Im using the latest Drivers and the card will run as a "standars VGA adapter".

Really hacking me off. My 4850 was better than this :(

Right firstly seems like quite a few people have encountered problems with the gtx 280 when first installing one (i did) and there are a fair few threads on it.

Best place to start, on the back pannel of the card there is a light (next to the 2nd dvi output) when your pc is on what colour is it? (this will indicate if the card is getting enough power).

If its red, check you have the 6 and 8 pin power connectors in propperly (it took me an hour to get it in right so take some time over it). Also does your motherboard have any extra power inputs on it (like a 4pin molex) on the board, if so make sure thats in so ass much power as possible can make it to your new card (they are pretty power hungry).

As re-installing vista seems to re-create the problem i think we can eliminate the OS as a source of the problem so id focus on the hardware :)

Hi, I have the same problem and cant fix it but the workaround that works for me is - When you turn the pc on and it come up in standerd VGA mode all you have to do is turn it off and then back on quickly do not restart it....

Try this and let me know if it works for you.....some one else told me this fix so seems to work for a few people

It's very unlikely to be problem with the card and far more likely software related, RMA and your only get it back again with testing + P&P charge.
