GTX280 Problem

Hi all,

I recently purchased this motherboard http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-172-GI but I'm having problems getting my GTX280 to run on it, after powering up, the Gpus fan starts to spin, i hear a couple of quick bleeps then the fan stops spinning.

I've reseated the gpu but same results.

I've tried my old 7950gt on this board and it works fine, the 280 works fine in another system too. very weird :(

Anyone else had any issues with this board and a 280 before?
Maybe a bios setting needs to change for the card to work?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Have you tried clearing CMOS? That could be one of the problems and sometimes clearing CMOS will clear any existing bios settings left behind by your old vga. Worth a shot..

Hey Jay, thanks for info, tried it twice to no avail. Appreciate the help mate.

Not sure what to do now :^/

If both graphics cards work in different motherboards, then the motherboard you have bought must have either a fault or an incompatiblatity issue.

When you say the GTX280 works ok in the other system, can you try the psu from that system with your new mobo and your GTX280 to rule out the psu in the other system?

Thanks for the reply Gary, What i meant to say was that I tried the card on another motherboard, ASUS P5N32-E SLi and all the other components were same and the card worked fine on it.
The PSU is a corsair TX750w

Haven't tried reverting back to older bios since i updated from F10 to F11

I thought about incompatibility but did some searching and theres plenty of peeps running 280/285's on it no problem. Might be just unlucky with this board :(
Was wondering if theres any settings in the bios i need to change at all?

Just spoke to Support at ocuk and they said I can't RMA the motherboard because it's not faulty which i quess is fair enough because it isn't faulty just incompatible :/

How unlucky can one get, oh well quess i'll auction both the board and the card and save up for better rig.

Thanks to all who responded, appreciate your time.

;)

distance selling laws...

It means the consumer has a cooling-off period of seven working days.

So if you buy something online, by fax, digital tv or mail order and want to return it then you can, no questions asked.

Cheers chaps, but I'm 3 weeks too late, was silly to wait untill i got back from holiday to check it out :(

Where have all the X48 Chipsets gone ?

X48 sold out as discontinued.

what about the beeps have you checked what they mean ?

Hey Varkanoid cheers for the post, yeah i checked for beeps, i'm getting 1 long 2 short which after searching around means (Video card error, re-seat or replace) tried re-seating untold times but no joy :/

Beeps sounds like a power issue. Did you plug any extra power leads into the motherboard to feed the PCI-e slots? Had to on my motherboard....

Thanks for posting Delbert, Nope no extra power leads just the usual ATX_12V & ATX connectors. Do you own the same motherboard?

I did notice that on my 280 theres normally a Green light that shows up on the left-hand side of the card but it always shows up Red on this motherboard.

does the card sit flush in the pcie socket? my antec 900 must be faulty as when the mobo installed when i stick a card in it would sit up at a slight angle, i had to get little rubber things under the screws to push it up so the card would be seated perfectly.
Also does that board happen to have any extra pcie slots you can test?

being careful it is worth having a nose around the bios to see if any relevant settings might be affecting you

Cheers D13, The cards fits the slot no problem, have tried it outside the case also, same results. Yeah shame this mobo don't have any extra slots.

I did have a butchers in the bios but tbh i don't really mess about in there as i am a noob when it comes to the settings in there.

I am interested in upping the PCI-E voltage like Jigger mentioned, this is what i found in the bios

Robust Graphics Booster [Auto]

PCI Express Clock Drive [700Mv]

PCE Express Frequency(Mhz) [Auto]

which one of these should i play with?

cheers

also i know it is a bit of effort, but could you test the card in another system using the same psu? this would at least rule out any possible power issues

Tried it on another mobo with same components which was Asus P5N32-E SLi and worked fine no problems at all.

I've tried it with 1 stick of ram, then 2 sticks. Also removed sound card and Hard drives too still no luck
