GTX295 not what I expected?

I bought the red EVGA GTX295 and I am running it on a P6T deluxe V2 with an i7920 OC'd to 3.2GHz.
RAM is 12GB 1600MHz timings 8-8-8-21.
But when I run empire total war in 1900x1200, the sea battles and seiges have terrible framerates.
I have multi GPU enabled in NVIDEA control panel.
I expected so much more from this card but it under delivered.
It does run cooler and quieter than my old 4870X2 though.

Sounds like you have something wrong - tho I've not tried empire total war...

But my 260GTX SLI runs everything flawlessly with silky smooth framerates.

It's a lot of card for the money, people just think it's a little more card than it is but in truth it's a bit over priced and in terms of back for buck it doesnt hold up.

The 4870x2 is louder and hotter, but it's the right amount of card for the money even if it is less powerful

However, as above, I can't see why you would have FPS problems with it at that Res in that game, I can't give you any advice though unfortunatly.

I agree - something up with that. :(

Got a 295 for test at the mo and like my 260 SLi setup it runs everything very nicely.

What res are you playing at and have you fully uninstalled and driver cleaned the setup after removing your 4870X2?

gt

It depends on what you were expecting?

GTX295 isn't much faster than 4870x2, the reduced noise and heat are probably the more noticeable improvements.

I am running latest drivers after a driversweep.
My res is 1920x1200.
I am also running the game in ultra settings with no AA.
Even if I play at 800x600 there are framerate problems!!!!
I can't understand what's happening.
I can run intel burntest no problem and I get a super pi 1million reading of 12.5 seconds.

Check Nvidia Control Panel - Do you have your settings at totally max my mistake or something? i.e. AA/AF etc etc as I think this will overwrite in game settings??

H'mm maybe worth trying another test - try crysis benchmark, compare it to mine as I'm using a GTX 295 - see if you get above 50fps.

IF you do not have this game you can either go buy it or you can use the DEMO version AVAILABLE HERE

To Download the benchmark tool you can get it HERE

Run 5 loops on Island at 8am
DX9 (use 64 bit if youre using 64 bit system)
all settings very high with x4 AA
fullscreen
1900x1200

Demo-benchmark_gpu
DX9 1900x1200, AA=4x, Vsync=Disabled, 64 bit test, FullScreen
Demo Loops=5, Time Of Day= 8
Global Game Quality: VeryHigh
If you get over 52+FPS then I doubt theirs a problem with the card.

Total war is a beast but it shouldn't be having problems running it with no AA.
I've had total war runing smoothly on my single 4870 @ 1600x1050 so somethings definately wrong maybe not ur gpu but somthing is.

i would look at powersupply, first off, or drivers....seems a little off my stock HD4870 512 could handle most games at a decent frame rates with AA

i have that powersupply.... no it should be more than able.

drivers than. just reinstall them use driver sweeper, while your at it just check for old ATI onces, thna reinstall the Nvida lastest than you should be away if not, than you know trouble shot time

I have run driversweeper and am now DL'ing latest drivers.
Hope things improve!
I am getting a message, The nvidea setup program could not find any drivers for my hardware.

report back on your findings, ATI has this problem too :P so don't worry too much :P

I have updated the drivers and run 2 benchmarks.
Company of heroes with everything as high as they can go at 1920x1200.
Average: 59.4
MAX: 61.4
MIN: 57.4

World in conflict with everything as high again at 1920x1200.
Average: 51
MAX: 157
MIN: 19.
What do you think or is there a better benchmark to use?
Sometimes I get a a maximum of 200 on world in conflict,strange.

Yeah you can really judge a card from one single games performance LOL. It could be any number of things.

for empire total war you need the 181.22 drivers for your card to work in SLI mode. its documented on the official total war forums.
