GTX295 not what I expected?

I believe there is a known driver issue with the 295 GTX and Empire.

I installed mine last night and ran the game at 1920x1200 with everything at max inc AA etc....The World Map was not completely smooth but very playable.

The battles were actually completely smooth - which I did not expect having read a lot of forum posts like this.

Maybe I have a newer driver or something? Update everything you can.

I think it could be a hard drive problem.
I have 2 1TB WD caviar black HDD's.
Should they be setup as a RAID configuration?
How should they be setup within the ASUS P6T BIOS?

How was the 4870x2 with emprie total war? The GTX295 isn't really that muich faster than the x2 in general.

Also, bear in mind that the total war games do tend to hose the CPU heavily, as they require AI computations for (potentailly) thousands of semi-independent units.

I think it could be a hard drive problem.

Very unlikely. Data is entirely loaded into the memory before it goes to the CPU / GPU. Unless you're getting significant HDD paging in-game then the HDD will affect only load times, not framerates.

Is empire totally patched up? The game runs like a dog without the updates. It came out without multi-core compatibility, and was hastily patched up by Creative almost as soon as the complaints started flooding in, as is the custom with most total war games

It automatically updates through steam.
I have just done the DMC4 benchmark and the results compare to a GTX295 running on one GPU.
I have multi GPU enabled on the nvidea control panel.
The benchmark will only run in DX10 and it crashes to a black screen if I try DX9.

I bought the red EVGA GTX295 and I am running it on a P6T deluxe V2 with an i7920 OC'd to 3.2GHz.
RAM is 12GB 1600MHz timings 8-8-8-21.
But when I run empire total war in 1900x1200, the sea battles and seiges have terrible framerates.
I have multi GPU enabled in NVIDEA control panel.
I expected so much more from this card but it under delivered.
It does run cooler and quieter than my old 4870X2 though.

Same set up as me mate.
I had same problem. got rid of the card and tried my mates 275 clocked to 285 levels. so much nicer for some reason.
I found the 295 gave me micro stutters a lot, done my head in :(
but this is not the case with everyone tho. just waiting for my 275 now :)
I have mine clocked at 3.8GHz.. timing 8-8-8-20
