Hi there

i currently have a ACER Aspire m3800
4gb ddr 3
1 dvd rw 20 x
zotac gt240 1gb ddr3
intel q8300 quad core
front card reader
onboard sound
cooler master rs-460 psu ...config looks like this
+3.3 +5v +12v1 +12v2 -12v +5vsb
20a 20a 18a 18a 0.8a 2.5a
130w 324w
i really dont know much about psu's, sorry, thats why i have tried to put as much info as i can.

The thing is my graphics doesnt run warcraft at a nice smooth rate,i can run on fair setting at 50fps but its not really smooth and im looking to upgrade to a gtx460.(any that will run ok in my pc is fine upto £140,150 at a push)

i dont know wether my psu will run it and i dont think i have the power connectors(unsure what they look like) on the psu for such a card,so any help would be appreciated thanks people.

Warcraft as in World of Warcraft right?

While the GT240 is not the most ideal gaming card, I think the main cause of your low frame rate is because of your CPU limitation. While your CPU is a Quad core, the game itself don't really use the 3rd and 4th core...(not sure if it's been improved with the latest update, but I doubt it), and with your CPU at stock speed it would not be fast enough in busy area with lots of people. So before you spend the money on getting graphic card upgrade, have a go on overclocking the CPU first.

Yes it is World of Warcraft, thank you for a speedy reply.

i have read that in the new expansion that it now caters for the extra cores(however i am unsure exactly on this)

how would i overclock this CPU on this motherboard?can i do it with software?and if you could point me in the right direction would be fantastic, many thanks

Kevin
p.s i can get higher frame rates(70ish plus),if i dont sync it to my 60hz monitor, but it just doesnt look or feel smooth to me

unlikely the cpu being the issue i think. it's not like it's a huge cpu limited game. getting a new gpu will improve things and a 460 is plenty. it will be fine for the psu. i mean tops your rig will be hitting is prolly 400w only anyway with everything overclocked. ampwise is plenty.

Many thanks for the reply

i guess the next question is which 460gtx is suitable for my rig,as im sure they need 2 power connectors.

i have the space for it to fit in my rig, just need to find if i can power it

many thanks again for the replies

cheers

Kev

You need two 6 pin connectors from the mobo or two 3 pin HDD adaptors.

Try giving the CPU and overclock and take it from there.

If your mainly playing WoW i'd go for clocking the CPU as it's a CPU heavy game and not as GPU heavy
