GTX460 overheating

I have a 1GB Palit GTX460 and it's always been a little bit temperamental, I think. Originally noticed a few strange things when playing through some of half life 2 and starcraft 2 the graphics driver would frequently crash and restart, or not restart until I hit ctrl-alt-del. This would usually happen after seeing some textures going black or go missing. I 'fixed' it by turning down sc2 settings and setting the fan speed manually to 80-100% when playing sc2.

Then after installing BF3 last night and having a bit of a play, it's clear that there's something wrong.

Aside from this video it was also doing the missing texture/unplayable thing that SC2 did, only without the pseudo-crash of SC2.

I've never overlocked the card - just my CPU is which is an i3 540 @ 4ish. CPU temps are low'ish most of the time, GPU seems to get up to 70-80.

Most of the time I play QuakeWorld and TF2 (with low detail settings) and these don't ahve the same problem so hadn't noticed it so much before...

Please help, what should I do?!

Have you updated to the latest gfx drivers drivers or experimented with earlier releases?

You could also consider flashing the card to the latest BIOS (if there is one).

You could also try a different DVI lead - or even test the vga output if it has one.

Your temps don't seem that excessive but they could be factor - if the sensor isn't reading the temps correctly.

Ideally you would test another card to see if it replicates the same problem (which would put the MB in the firing line - but could possibly be another component.) - but if you haven't got one to hand and you've tried all the above you may have to consider an rma.

Thanks for the tips - my flatmate has almost the exact same system as me without issues so I will see if we can swap cards temporarily to replicate the problem.

I've experimented with different drivers - SC2 had issues when I was using 270, BF2 required the installation of 285 and I think I've had an older version than 270 installed too.

Will check the BIOS update tonight - I remember reading about it but can't remember if I actually applied it.
