Just curious here....got a fairly decent setup with an i7 @ 4ghz + 460gtx clocked to 821/1642/2082 (core/shader/memory) and i'm just wondering what sort of percentage increase i'd get if i upgraded to a 580gtx, both at stock and if it was oc'd ?

My best guess would be about 30% stock and maybe 40-45% when overclocked maybe ?

It is actually but i have this need for "mooooore powaaaaah" :D

Maybe i'm being silly...

Anyone made the move here and have a genuine idea of the sort of performance diff then?

you know i am in a similar position i dont know whither to go single GTX 570 or SLI GTX 460:confused: have had SLI 9800 GTX and never really suffered from microstutter, but now i will have to wait for two days(69XX) i would be mad not to,

hmm, well the sensible thing to do, if the 460 is indeed doing the job and you are able to enjoy your games to the level you expect, is to just sit tight. Wait for the prices to come down abit at least.

Alternativly, if you'v got the money, why not?

I would go single gpu tho, less hassle. I'v had my fill of multi gpu and never again!

Chepest option is to sli. But if you can sell.... then 570....

what's wrong with multi gpu im about to go multi gpu?

err, probably not too much.

Just multi gpu is very driver dependant. Basiaclly its less hassle to run single cards than 2+ cards in sli/crossfire....

But that doesnt mean the multi cards is a bad idea.

If you going from one to two then fine, but if your going to be buying 2 cards at the begining, I would personally get the single more powerful card.

I went from GTX460 SLI to a single GTX580 within my i7 @ 4GHz system.

Buggered if I can notice the difference between them, which is why I just ordered a second GTX580.

GTX460 SLI = GTX580 @ 1920x1200. The GTX460's should also overclock better (percentage wise) and provide slightly better performance overall.

My advice would be to save £100 and go for 460 SLI unless you intend to game at greater than 1920x1200 where that extra 512MB of GDDR on the 580 will come in handy.

even if there was a bit of micro stuttering i think i could cope with it and about the drivers both ati/nvidia have always had bad drivers the only company who hasn't really is intel but there gpu's aren't realy gaming ones are they now ?

I've just gone onto Nvidia 3D glasses etc and my 460 GTXs performance is border line now. I've just been looking at auctions for either a 2nd 460 to SLI or a 480. Cost to change is the same either way:- used 480 £200, used 460 £100.

Did this spreadsheet to help me decide - only game there is Metro 2033 as that's the slowest one...

Basically used 480s costs the same as 2 used 460s, but it's a little slower and runs hotter.

Cost to change from 460SLI to single 580 would be £200 for only a 5% improvement.

ETA: Just noticed you're on a single 460 like me. So changing to 580 would almost double frame rates at 1900x1200 but cost £300+

Hi Guys,
I invested in 2 of the MSI GTX460's Cyclone 768Mb, one card does get a little hotter than the other in SLi but if your lucky enough to have a Tri SLi mobo you would have got a long flexible SLi bridge for 3 grphx cards + Rigid SLi bridge for dual card setup.

Use the Tri SLi bridge, put 1st card in slot 1 & 2nd card in slot 3 (on my mobo, M4N82, 2 of them run @ *16 whichever order), this makes the cards further apart & thus gives better air circulation keeping them a bit cooler.

As for performance, is 150+ avg FPs in Black Op's high enough for you ? :-)

As you can see as well @ 1920 x 1080 this game still does not use a lot of memory but i spose that particular scene could make a difference.

These cards are extremly good & the noise is.......................noiseless !!!, temps as above don't exceed 60 degrees at all under max load.

I have done a lot of testing / benching & have a few pics for you.
