So I'm considering purchasing a GTX470 or even 2 of them for SLI .. can you use 3 for Tri-SLI & What manufacture would be best to purchase, do they make that much of difference or should i look for certain speeds/settings?

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470

£234.99 inc

Waste of money £££ :D

I have the standard version of the gigabyte wayne, cost £200.00 a few weeks ago, pretty hot running/noisy card, the soc is a few pound more but for that you get a very good cooling solution, and it uses a bit less power. I wish id went for the soc tbh, as im gonna end up having to add an aftermarket cooler to my standard card which will cost £40.00 ono.

How Ridiculous! . . . . some people are happy to recommend a card that is "apparently" flawed by running too hot and too noisy and using too much power . . . and then suggesting a punter pay an additional £50 odd to fix the problem?

The standard model from a branded/reputable manufacturer should work fine with acceptable heat levels and acceptable acoustics . . . If this isn't the case it will not do to make the punter pay a £50 premium to make it work at acceptable heat/noise levels? . . . that should be nVidia's expense not ours? . . .

That card with additional cooling is worth an extra £5 or £10 max . . . . £50 premium is robbery!

Its not a case of fixing but improving. For Ultra Durable components (which really are better quality not just a fancy name) and IIRC upto 19% reduced power use clock for clock, upto 17% cooler clock for clock, with a quieter fan and a reasonable factory OC its worth a reasonable amount more than the stock card.

Please don't make me laugh! :D

Now some people are suggesting the standard card uses sub-standard components? . . . i.e if you buy the more affordable card it will break or?

Paying a £50 premium for reduced power consumption, reduced heat and reduced noise is "Fixing" a flawed product! . . . it should offer acceptable power consumption, acceptable thermals and acceptable acoustics as a "vanilla" product . . . the £50 premium cannot be "Justified" . . .

Lol GTX 470 for £235 odd in Nov 2010 . . . cmon wake up please!

"apparently" flawed by running too hot and too noisy and using too much power ...

IMAO, now now B.W calm down you might blow a gasket.

Well my MSI 470 is my first NVidea card in 10yrs, the noise was no louder than my 5870. I just made my own fan profile up 50% max fan speed solved the noise problem she never went over 80'c. As for power so it uses more than my 5870, l,ve got a good PSU.

Look how hot CPU'S are, power - 145w more when Overclocked > noisey stock fan. The same could be said about them, look what you can spend on a better CPU cooler and better thermal compound...

I set up a custom loop[CPU + GPU > £300] while l had the 5870, to reduce noise, etc, as both my CPU and GPU were overclocked. So all it cost me was about £70 for a new Full Cover 470 GPU block > no noise > 470 peaks at 51'c at 850/1700/200 1024mv. LOL no idea how much power she's using now...

If people are worried about their electric bills, how many run more than 1 PC or Sever 24/7, still eats the electricity up so no different then using a NVidea 400 series GPU...

Theres definitely some "confused" people posting in this thread? . . . half of your replies make no sense at all? . . . or at least do not address the issue of this £50 additional premium? :D

BW, the LED's are worth the extra premium to some, it's down to the individual and his/her tastes and needs as to what warrants a certain price.
